“Land Rover Defender Gets Luxurious Upgrades and More Powerful Engine Line-up”

Land Rover has made significant updates to its Defender lineup, introducing a luxurious seven-seater model, a more powerful diesel engine, and a plug-in hybrid variant. These changes, although not a complete facelift, bring important mechanical and cosmetic improvements to the L663-generation Defender.

Under the bonnet, the D300 diesel engine has been replaced by the D350 engine from the Range Rover, resulting in a boost in power to 345bhp and 516lb ft. The new engine enhances performance, making overtaking and towing easier than before.

The P400 Ingenium straight-six petrol engine has been swapped for a supercharged 5.0-litre V8, increasing power to 419bhp. The plug-in hybrid Defender now features a detuned P300e setup with a 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, rather than the previously expected three-pot engine.

These changes were necessary to ensure compliance with Euro 6e emissions regulations. It is likely that the petrol straight-six engine will also be phased out from other Land Rover models in the near future.

Inside the cabin, one of the key upgrades is the introduction of a new Captain Chairs pack for the three-row Defender 130. This pack replaces the middle bench with two individual armchairs, providing comfort and easy access to the rearmost three seats. The captain chairs are heated and ventilated, offering a front-row experience for passengers in the second row.

The Defender lineup now consists of simplified trims including S, X-Dynamic SE, X-Dynamic HSE, X, and V8 variants. These trims are available in 90, 110, and 130 bodystyles. Additionally, Land Rover is offering a special edition called the ‘Sedona’ edition of the 110, featuring bespoke red paintwork, a black trim pack, and an optional bonnet decal inspired by the rocky terrain of Sedona, Arizona.

Prices for the Defender range start from £53,310 for the Defender S 90, with the commercial Hard Top variant starting at £60,470. The range-topping Defender 130 is priced from £81,585.

Overall, the updates to the Land Rover Defender lineup bring improved performance, enhanced comfort, and compliance with emissions regulations. These changes ensure that the Defender remains a capable and desirable SUV in the market.
