“Land Rover Unveils Restomod Defender to Rival Mercedes G-Class”

Land Rover has recently unveiled a new restomod version of the classic Defender, positioning it as a direct rival to the Mercedes G-Class. This official restomod, produced by Land Rover Classic, aims to bring the iconic 4×4 into the modern era with various updates to its chassis, interior, and exterior.

One of the standout features of this restomod is its powerful engine. It is equipped with JLR’s renowned naturally aspirated 5.0-liter ‘AJ’ V8 engine, delivering an impressive 405 horsepower and 380 lb-ft of torque. This engine is paired with an eight-speed gearbox supplied by ZF, ensuring smooth and efficient power delivery.

To enhance the Defender’s handling capabilities, Land Rover has incorporated Bilstein dampers, Eibach springs, and anti-roll bars. These additions help the vehicle navigate corners with ease and stability. Additionally, the restomod version is equipped with four-pot Alcon brakes, providing improved stopping power and overall safety.

Inside the vehicle, Land Rover has paid attention to every detail. The seats, door cards, roof lining, and dashboard have been reupholstered in one of five luxurious leather options. Buyers have the choice between two seat designs – one prioritizing comfort and the other, supplied by Recaro, offering thicker bolsters and a sportier look. The radio has been replaced with a new deck featuring a 3.5-inch touchscreen, which brings modern features like sat-nav, DAB radio, and Bluetooth connectivity while maintaining the original aesthetic of the Defender.

In terms of exterior modifications, the restomod version features brighter LED headlights and a selection of 16-inch or 18-inch alloy wheels. Land Rover also offers various accessories such as side steps, a ladder, and LED spotlights. For those seeking a truly personalized touch, Land Rover provides a paint-to-sample option, allowing buyers to match their vehicle’s color to their preference.

The pricing for the Defender V8 by Works Bespoke starts at £190,000 (excluding VAT) for the four-seat 90 model. The larger five-seat 110 model is priced from £199,000, and the seven-seater variant is priced at £204,000 (also excluding VAT). Each vehicle will be based on a Defender produced between 2012 and 2016, sourced by Land Rover itself.

This restomod version of the classic Defender showcases Land Rover’s commitment to preserving the heritage of their iconic off-roader while offering modern performance and luxury. With its powerful engine, enhanced handling, and refined interior, it is poised to compete with the Mercedes G-Class in the luxury SUV market. Whether buyers are seeking a comfortable and stylish daily driver or an adventure-ready off-roader, the Land Rover Defender V8 restomod provides a compelling option that combines the best of both worlds.
