LEVC, the manufacturer of London taxis, has unveiled the interior design of its upcoming eight-seat electric MPV, the LEVC L380. The MPV, set to arrive in the UK within the next two years, is the first vehicle based on LEVC’s new Space-Oriented Architecture (SOA), which is designed to optimize interior space, ease of access, rolling refinement, and range.
The L380’s interior features up to eight leather seats with Alcantara upholstery and chrome detailing, inspired by the world of luxury airline travel. The seats can also fold flat, allowing passengers to sleep during their journey. Each passenger has access to a large screen positioned on the back of the seat in front, as well as tablets on the armrests to control the infotainment screens.
LEVC has incorporated several design cues from famous London landmarks into the L380. Icons such as Tower Bridge and Big Ben can be seen around the cabin as part of the ambient lighting design. The exterior wheel design is also influenced by the London Eye. Additionally, the MPV boasts a huge panoramic sunroof measuring 2.18m-sq, air vents shaped like the Chinese Ruyi symbol, and interior ambient lighting that resembles a meteor shower.
The SOA platform on which the L380 is built is capable of hosting electric vehicles ranging from 4.86m to 5.95m in length. It is designed to maximize interior space, ease of access, rolling refinement, and range. This platform will underpin a range of large commercial and passenger vehicles separate from LEVC’s existing TX taxi and VN5 van.
According to details published by Chinese media, the L380 measures 5316mm long, 1998mm wide, and 1940mm tall, weighing 2805kg. The eight seats are arranged across four rows of two, with the rearmost able to be folded and stowed, and the third row able to slide back and forth to increase legroom.
LEVC plans to offer a more luxurious six-seater version of the L380. While full technical details will be confirmed next year, early reports suggest that the L380 will feature a 268bhp front-mounted motor similar to the EM90 MPV from Volvo, which is also owned by Geely. The L380 will be available with either a 73kWh or 120kWh battery, offering a maximum range of 432 miles.
LEVC has also confirmed that the SOA platform will support EVs with more than 536bhp from a dual-motor, four-wheel-drive powertrain. However, it has not yet announced whether the L380 will offer a choice of outputs.
