Lightrun Launches Runtime Autonomous AI Debugger to Help Developers Fix Code Faster

Lightrun, a Tel Aviv-based startup, has recently launched its first AI-based tool called the Runtime Autonomous AI Debugger. This tool is designed to help developers quickly fix issues with their production code, reducing the time it takes to resolve problems from hours to minutes. Lightrun’s CEO, Ilan Peleg, stated that the company aims to automate the debugging process from the moment a ticket is raised until the root cause is identified at a granular level, down to a single line of code.

To further enhance its capabilities, Lightrun plans to incorporate generative AI in the future, allowing the tool to automatically fix bugs. While this feature is not yet available, Peleg believes that with the rapid advancements in technology, it’s only a matter of time before it becomes a reality.

One of the reasons Lightrun is able to focus on debugging is because it gathers insights not only from the code itself but also from the entire monitoring and observability stack. The company plans to connect its system to other enterprise inputs such as ticketing systems, leveraging the wealth of troubleshooting and debugging-related data in the enterprise landscape. Peleg emphasized that many existing chat interfaces, similar to Copilot, only look at the code and lack the necessary context to provide optimal solutions.

Lightrun has undergone several iterations to ensure that its system is ready for day-to-day use. The team started experimenting with generative AI about six months ago but found that the solution was too expensive to offer as a product at that time. However, they have now fine-tuned the system to make it more cost-effective without compromising its effectiveness.

For now, the generative AI features will be available to users in the private beta. Peleg emphasized that the company’s focus is on proving the value of the system to users and not on short-term monetization.

In addition to the launch of the Runtime Autonomous AI Debugger, Lightrun also announced that it raised $18 million in a SAFE round last year, with participation from GTM Capital, Insight Partners, and Glilot Capital. This brings Lightrun’s total funding to date to $45 million. The company plans to raise a Series B round next year, indicating its confidence in the potential of its AI-based debugging tool.

Overall, Lightrun’s new tool has the potential to revolutionize the debugging process for developers, allowing them to quickly and efficiently resolve issues in their production code. With plans to incorporate generative AI and connect to other enterprise inputs, Lightrun aims to provide a comprehensive and context-rich solution for developers. The company’s recent funding round further demonstrates the confidence investors have in Lightrun’s innovative approach to debugging.
