Logitech Launches MX Ink: The First Stylus for Meta Quest Mixed Reality Headsets

blankLogitech is set to release the MX Ink stylus, a new tool specifically designed for Meta Quest mixed reality headsets. This collaboration between Logitech and Meta Quest aims to provide users with a high-precision stylus that allows for creativity, annotation, and navigation in MR environments.

Vadim Kogan, head of AR/VR at Logitech, expressed excitement about the partnership, stating that Logitech has a long history of providing software-enabled, hardware solutions that give people the freedom and precise control they need to express themselves in the digital world. The MX Ink stylus seamlessly transitions between 2D and 3D spaces, offering the familiarity of a traditional stylus with the tracking accuracy expected by Meta Quest users in MR.

MX Ink will be compatible with Gravity Sketch, marking the first time Meta Quest headsets will support more than two paired controllers at once. Users can easily switch between using Meta Quest controllers and MX Ink without interrupting their workflow. The stylus pairs through the Meta Quest app and is compatible with both Meta Quest 3 and Meta Quest 2.

Furhan Zafar, VP of sustaining product operations and accessories at Meta, believes that MX Ink offers a unique input device for the Meta Quest ecosystem. He expects that Meta customers will benefit from having such a complimentary tool that will be supported by many applications and users.

The MX Ink stylus has a familiar pen-like feel, making it easy to use in various creation and collaboration applications. Its pressure-sensitive tip works on physical surfaces, allowing for more natural writing and sketching experiences in applications like Painting VR, Engage XR, OpenBrush, and Arkio.

MX Ink also offers enhanced functionality in 3D sketching, design, and modeling software such as Gravity Sketch and Adobe Substance 3D Modeler. Users can apply different levels of pressure to control line and stroke weight, enabling more expressive and detailed interactions. In ShapesXR, MX Ink provides a powerful and intuitive toolset for 3D creation. It also brings precision to surgery planning using Elucis by Realize Medical.

To enhance the writing and drawing experience, MX Ink can be paired with MX Mat, a friction-free environment for writing and drawing. Additionally, MX Ink comes with MX Ink Well, a charging base inspired by pen stands, ensuring that the stylus is always ready for use. Currently, MX Ink is supported by various applications, including GravitySketch, ShapesXR, Engage XR, Adobe Substance 3D Modeler, Arkio, Realize Medical, Painting VR, and OpenBrush.

MX Ink, MX Ink + MX Inkwell Combo, and MX Mat will be available later this year through Logitech’s website, Meta’s website, and Amazon. Developers interested in integrating MX Ink with their applications can visit Logitech’s website to apply for a developer kit.

In conclusion, the collaboration between Logitech and Meta Quest brings forth the MX Ink stylus, a powerful tool that enhances the creative capabilities and productivity of users in MR environments. With its precision, familiar feel, and compatibility with various applications, MX Ink aims to bridge the gap between traditional tools and the immersive digital world of mixed reality.
