Lotus Eletre SUV: Pricing, Specs, and Competition in the US Market

Lotus is finally bringing its Eletre SUV to the U.S. market, offering two versions: the entry-level Eletre and the high-performance Eletre R. Both models feature a dual-motor configuration powered by a 111.9-kWh battery and utilize an 800-volt architecture for fast charging capabilities. The mid-range Eletre S, available in other markets, will not be offered in the U.S. This decision is likely due to the luxury segment’s preference for a higher level of standard features for American consumers.

The prices for the Lotus Eletre SUVs in the U.S. start at $107,000 for the base model and go up to $145,000 for the performance-oriented R variant. The base model generates an impressive 603 horsepower and 710 pound-feet of torque, allowing it to accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 4.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 160 mph. On the other hand, the Eletre R boasts a combined output of 905 hp and 985 lb-ft of torque, enabling it to achieve a blistering 0-62 mph time of 2.95 seconds and a top speed of 165 mph.

To manage the immense power and weight of these SUVs, Lotus has equipped the base model with six-piston calipers clamping the front discs, while the R variant gets more powerful 10-piston calipers. The minimum specifications for both models include seven configurable interior screens, KEF audio system, adaptive suspension, and an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) that utilizes Nvidia chips to process information from 12 cameras, 18 radar units, and four LIDAR arrays.

The pricing of the Lotus Eletre SUVs has sparked intrigue among enthusiasts and industry experts alike. Autoblog stated in their First Drive review that they were left with more questions than answers after spending a few days with the Eletre. Adding to the intrigue is that the Lotus Eletre will be competing in a segment primarily focused on sports-focused SUVs. Its rivals include the Porsche Macan 4 EV, priced between $79,000 and $105,300, and the Maserati Grecale Folgore (estimated around $110,000). If we include other electric SUVs like the Audi Q8 Sportback E-Tron (priced between $94,000 and $100,000) and the Genesis Electrified GV70 ($68,000 to $75,000), the competition becomes even tougher.

However, the market for luxury and off-road capable SUVs is dominated by other models such as the Mercedes-EQS SUV (priced between $106,000 and $181,000), Hummer EV SUV (ranging from $96,550 to $140,295), and the Rivian R1S (starting at $74,900 up to $92,000). This indicates that Lotus is positioning the Eletre as a high-performance offering rather than a pure luxury or off-road-focused SUV.

Looking ahead, Lucid is expected to enter this competitive segment with its anticipated model, the Gravity, before the end of the year. The arrival of this new contender will undoubtedly fuel highly anticipated comparison tests set to take place in early 2025. With the ever-expanding range of options available in the luxury electric SUV segment, consumers can expect an exciting future with increased competition, pushing manufacturers to innovate and deliver even more impressive performance and features.
