Magmic introduces a new mobile and web game, utilizing MLB license, named Web3.

Magmic, a developer and publisher based in Ottawa, Canada, has recently announced the launch of their new mobile and web game, Web3. This exciting new game is based on the Major League Baseball (MLB) license and falls into the “idle tycoon” genre. Players will have the opportunity to become a baseball magnate and build their own ballpark.

The game was unveiled by Magmic at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco. The company hosted an exclusive invitation-only game reveal party during the conference, where they showcased Web3 to industry leaders. A closed beta test for the game is scheduled to take place soon.

According to Mo Agha, CEO of Magmic, Web3 marks the company’s entry into the Web3 realm. In an interview with GamesBeat, Agha explained that the game simulates playing a baseball game and allows players to manage businesses within the game, similar to the mechanics of an idle tycoon game. Through these activities, players will be able to build their own impressive ballpark.

Magmic is known for its popular mobile games, including Scattergories, which is licensed from Hasbro. With the launch of Web3, the company has partnered with MLB and obtained a licensing agreement to develop a tycoon-style management game that offers players control over their digital collections within Magmic’s custodial platform.

Agha expressed excitement about the game’s release and emphasized Magmic’s commitment to creating an enjoyable gaming experience while also allowing true in-game asset ownership. He stated that this aspect sets Web3 apart in the new world of Web3 gaming. Magmic has a history of innovation dating back to its founding in 2002 and has consistently pushed the boundaries of mobile game development. The integration of NFTs into their titles like Passport Rummy laid the groundwork for their venture into the Web3 gaming space.

The announcement of Web3 comes shortly after the successful launch of another Magmic game called UFC Fight Card Rummy. This real-money skill game combines the classic appeal of Rummy with UFC sports branding. Magmic boasts over 250 million game downloads and a dedicated player base that spans two decades. They have developed more than 100 mobile games, including popular titles like Scattergories Blitz and Passport Rummy. Their first venture into the Web3 gaming market was with Idle Pet Paradise.

Web3 is expected to launch in late 2024 and will be built on Web3 technology. The game will allow for tradeable players, but it can also be played as a free-to-play Web2 title. This approach makes it more acceptable to mobile platforms like Google and Apple, as they can still receive their share of royalties. While most revenue is expected to come from Web2 players, the purchases will be handled through standard app store payment systems.

Agha clarified that Magmic is using blockchain as a technology, not as a business model, to ensure a positive user experience. He emphasized that Web3 is about ownership and not a get-rich-quick scheme. Agha believes that the Web3 gaming market is currently in a dynamic time, with renewed interest in cryptocurrency markets.

Magmic’s Web3 team consists of 36 talented individuals who are dedicated to creating an immersive and enjoyable gaming experience for players.

Overall, Magmic’s introduction of Web3 is an exciting development in the gaming industry. With its MLB license and innovative gameplay mechanics, the game has the potential to capture the attention of both baseball fans and gaming enthusiasts alike. Players can look forward to building their own ballpark and experiencing the thrill of running a successful baseball empire. As Magmic continues to push the boundaries of mobile game development, their entry into the Web3 gaming space demonstrates their commitment to staying at the forefront of industry trends and delivering unique gaming experiences.
