Maserati Unveils Track-Ready GT2 Stradale Version of MC20 Supercar

Maserati has recently introduced a new variant of its MC20 supercar called the GT2 Stradale, which takes inspiration from the GT2 race car. This track-ready version is 60kg lighter than the standard MC20 and boasts an additional 11bhp from its twin-turbocharged 3.0-litre V6 engine. With these enhancements, the GT2 Stradale weighs 1365kg and produces 632bhp at 7500rpm. As a result, it can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 2.8 seconds, putting it on par with the more powerful McLaren 750S and faster than the plug-in hybrid Ferrari 296 GTB.

Enhanced Handling and Aero Kit

To improve the GT2 Stradale’s handling, Maserati has incorporated the same sophisticated suspension set-up and steering-rack tuning from the GT2 race car. The braking system, including ventilated discs, callipers, and pads, has also been carried over. Additionally, the GT2 Stradale features a new front diffuser and a large rear wing, which together increase downforce to a maximum of 500kg. Maserati claims that these modifications result in “unparalleled sensations and superior performance.”

Corsa Evo Driving Mode and Optional Performance Packs

One notable addition to the GT2 Stradale is the Corsa Evo driving mode, which is only available with the optional performance packs. These packs also include Michelin semi-slick tires, an electronic limited-slip differential, and four-point seatbelts, among other features. The Corsa Evo driving mode functions as an advanced traction control system with four levels, further enhancing the car’s performance on the track.

Pricing and Special Edition Strategy

While pricing for the GT2 Stradale has yet to be announced, it is anticipated to exceed the £222,000 price tag of the standard MC20. However, when considering the vast amount of customization options that Maserati offers, the final price could be even higher. Maserati’s CEO, Davide Grasso, has emphasized the importance of special editions like the GT2 Stradale in achieving “benchmark margins in the industry.” This strategy is particularly crucial for the company as it aims to recover from an operating loss of €82 million (£69m) in 2023.
