“Maybach Unveils Ultra-Luxurious Mercedes-AMG SL 680 Monogram Series Convertible”

Maybach, the ultra-luxury arm of Mercedes, has unveiled its latest creation, the Mercedes-Maybach SL 680 Monogram Series. This new sports convertible aims to compete with the likes of the Bentley Continental GTC and Ferrari Roma Spider. While Maybach has previously been known for its reworkings of the S-Class limousine and GLS SUV, this is the brand’s first convertible.

One of the standout features of the Maybach SL is its unique two-tone liveries, with options of black over red or white. However, customers can also request other colors to suit their preferences. The grille of the SL is replaced with a distinctive chrome item, equipped with illuminated slats. The bonnet features a chrome fin that runs its length, which can be adorned with the ‘Maybach pattern’ in contrasting grey paint. The headlights receive rose-gold detailing, and the windscreen surround is finished in chrome. Chrome details also adorn the side sills, and a bespoke front splitter emphasizes the vehicle’s width. The Maybach SL rides on 21-inch wheels, available in two bespoke designs.

The interior of the Maybach SL exudes luxury. It is finished in crystal-white nappa leather and features chrome trim elements. The seats are adorned with a bespoke floral pattern. The touchscreen infotainment system has been reprogrammed with Maybach-specific graphics and animations, enhancing the overall experience.

Under the hood, the Maybach SL is powered by a twin-turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 engine, delivering 577 horsepower. The accelerator has been remapped to provide the dynamic driving pleasure expected from a Maybach. Refinement is further enhanced by a “noise-optimized” custom exhaust and extensive insulation and absorption measures.

While Mercedes has not yet provided pricing or availability details for the Maybach SL, it is expected to carry a significant premium over the standard SL, which already costs nearly £200,000. The Maybach versions of the S-Class and EQS SUV are priced from just north of £200,000, indicating that the Maybach SL will enter even more exclusive territory.

The unveiling of the Maybach SL follows closely after the introduction of the SL-based Purespeed concept by AMG, a Formula 1-inspired speedster that previews a new line of ultra-exclusive ‘Mythos’ special editions. With these recent developments, it is clear that Mercedes is expanding its offerings in the luxury sports convertible segment, catering to discerning customers who seek the pinnacle of luxury and performance.
