“Mazda Unveils Updated 2025 CX-50 with Hybrid Powertrain and New Features”

Mazda’s latest update to the CX-50 for the 2025 model year is causing quite a stir in the automotive industry. The most exciting news is the introduction of a hybrid powertrain, marking the return of electrification for Mazda’s compact CUV. This is the first time since the departure of the Tribute that a hybrid option will be available for the CX-50.

The hybrid variant will be offered in three trims: Preferred, Premium, and Premium Plus. While Mazda hasn’t disclosed the exact specifications of the powertrain, it is expected to deliver impressive fuel efficiency with an estimated 38 mpg combined. This falls just one mpg short of the 2024 Toyota RAV4 hybrid, which shares a similar powertrain. Toyota’s version produces 219 horsepower, so it’s safe to assume that Mazda’s numbers will be comparable.

In terms of towing capacity, Mazda’s hybrid CX-50 will be able to tow up to 1,500 pounds, which is slightly less than the 1,750-pound towing capacity of the Toyota RAV4. Nevertheless, this makes the hybrid variant a capable option for those who occasionally need to tow smaller loads.

For those seeking more power, Mazda offers turbocharged variants of the CX-50. These range-toppers are available in Premium and Premium Plus trims, with the Meridian Edition replacing the Preferred trim. With a towing capacity of 3,500 pounds, the Meridian Edition is the ideal choice for anyone looking to haul heavier loads. It boasts an impressive 227 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque when using regular gas. Opting for 93-octane premium fuel increases those figures to 256 horsepower and 320 pound-feet of torque.

Beyond the powertrain options, Mazda has made some subtle interior and exterior changes to enhance the CX-50’s appeal. One notable addition is the integration of Alexa Built-in, which allows drivers to interact with the vehicle using natural voice commands. This expands the CX-50’s connectivity and convenience features.

Safety has also been enhanced in the 2025 CX-50. Mazda has added a rear seat reminder function, improving child safety in the vehicle. Additionally, the standard “i-Activesense” suite now includes improved automatic emergency braking logic and collision mitigation features. These advancements prioritize the wellbeing of both passengers and pedestrians.

While complete specifications are yet to be revealed, Mazda has released pricing details for the different trim levels. The base models for each trim, including the destination fee, are as follows:

– CX-50 2.5 S Select: $31,720
– CX-50 Hybrid Preferred: $35,390
– CX-50 2.5 Turbo Meridian Edition: $42,220

With this update, Mazda is offering consumers a wider range of options and powertrain choices for the CX-50. Whether they prefer the efficiency of a hybrid or the performance of a turbocharged engine, Mazda ensures that there is a CX-50 that meets every driver’s needs.
