McLaren Automotive has introduced the McLaren 750S, a new iteration of its popular 720S supercar. The 750S represents a shift away from hybrid powertrains, distinguishing itself from competitors in Modena and Sant’Agata that have embraced plug-in hybrid technology. McLaren has instead focused on enhancing performance, handling, and driver appeal through improvements in lightness, agility, downforce, mechanical grip, and control feedback.

With the launch of the Artura and the resolution of some internal challenges, McLaren is now embarking on a new phase of development with greater confidence. While the company still plans to explore luxury niches and lifestyle vehicle concepts, it can now do so with a solid foundation and a reliable mainstay in the form of the 750S.

The 750S boasts several design enhancements compared to its predecessor, the 720S. The front splitter is longer and more aggressive, while the headlights are inset into sunken air intakes. The side features larger and more numerous air intakes, and the rear showcases a longer rear deck and larger rear wing. These modifications contribute to a more purposeful and dynamic appearance.

One of the key improvements in the 750S is weight reduction. McLaren claims to have shaved around 30kg from the car’s curb weight compared to the 720S. The car’s suspension is best left in Comfort mode for everyday driving, although Sport mode can be used for better contact with the road at higher speeds.

In terms of running costs, the 750S is priced below its predecessor, the 720S, and is comparable to other high-performance supercars in its class. The starting price is just under £250k, although options can significantly increase the overall cost. While the 750S may not offer the same breadth of dynamic talent as its predecessor, it provides a unique and exhilarating driving experience.
