Mercedes-Benz’s AMG division has introduced a new variant of its second-generation GT coupe, the GT 63 Pro 4Matic+. Unveiled at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, this track-focused model boasts a more powerful engine and several aerodynamic enhancements.
Under the hood, the GT 63 Pro is equipped with a 603bhp version of AMG’s twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V8 petrol engine, providing an additional 27bhp compared to the standard GT 63 4Matic+. The torque has also been increased by 37 lb ft. These upgrades are achieved through revised engine control software.
In terms of performance, the GT 63 Pro delivers impressive acceleration, with a 0-60mph time of 3.2 seconds and a 0-124mph time of 10.9 seconds. The latter is 0.5 seconds faster than the standard GT 63. The top speed has also been increased by 1mph to 197mph.
To improve aerodynamics, Mercedes-AMG has made several modifications to the GT 63 Pro. The front bumper design has been altered to include enhanced cooling ducts, and changes to the underbody airflow have been made. These updates result in a reduction of aerodynamic lift on the front axle by 30kg at top speed. Additionally, the car is equipped with a fixed rear wing as standard, increasing downforce on the rear axle by around 15kg.
The track-focused nature of the GT 63 Pro is further emphasized by its braking system. It comes with AMG’s ceramic-composite brake discs, measuring 420mm with six-piston calipers at the front and 360mm with single-piston floating calipers at the rear. The air guide vanes within the underbody and brake cover plates have been redesigned to provide better cooling for the brakes.
In terms of aesthetics, the GT 63 Pro features a carbon fiber exterior package, including a front splitter, trim strips within the side sills, diffuser, and rear wing. Inside the car, it adopts AMG performance front seats and an AMG performance steering wheel in nappa leather and microfiber.
While the pricing for the GT 63 Pro has not been confirmed for the UK market, it is expected to be higher than the £173,000 price tag of the standard GT 63 in Ultimate trim. Speculations suggest that it may exceed £200,000.
Overall, the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 Pro 4Matic+ is a compelling addition to the GT coupe lineup. With its enhanced performance, aerodynamic improvements, and track-focused features, it offers a thrilling driving experience for enthusiasts who crave speed and precision on the road.
