Mercedes Unveils Limited Edition 130Y Motorsport Track Car Celebrating Over a Century of Racing History

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled a special version of the Mercedes-AMG GT3 race car called the Edition 130Y Motorsport. This track car celebrates Mercedes’ more than a century-long history in automobile racing. What sets this version apart is that it is not built to compete professionally, which allowed Mercedes-AMG to disregard certain restrictions and create the fastest and last naturally-aspirated version of the car.

Under the hood, the Edition 130Y Motorsport features a 6.3-liter V8 engine with no intake restrictions, resulting in an impressive 671 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a six-speed sequential transaxle. One of the key modifications made to this car is the enhanced aerodynamics, including a new front splitter, side skirts, rear diffuser, fender louvres, underbody panels, and a wider rear wing. These changes improve downforce by 15% over the competition car. Additionally, the car is equipped with a drag reduction system (DRS) that adjusts the wing’s flap and underbody flaps for a top speed of over 196 mph.

AMG has also upgraded the braking system of the Edition 130Y with carbon ceramic brakes and six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear. This is a deviation from the GT3 class requirements, which mandate the use of heavier steel rotors.

Not only does the Edition 130Y Motorsport deliver impressive performance, but it also boasts striking visual aesthetics. The paint scheme is inspired by the iconic 1952 Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, which is showcased in the gallery. The car’s interior features eye-catching blue and white plaid fabric upholstery, complemented by light brown leather finishes on the racing buckets and walnut wood steering wheel grips. Furthermore, all of the race car’s essential safety equipment, including the carbon fiber safety cell, steel roll cage, five-point harness, and fire suppression system, are retained.

For those lucky enough to own one of the 13 Edition 130Y cars that will be produced, they will also receive an exclusive package. This includes a custom car cover, a 1:8 scale model of the car, and a matching plaid bag filled with a Puma race suit, gloves, shoes, underwear, and a Bell helmet.

As for the price, each of these limited edition cars will retail at 1.03 million Euros, equivalent to approximately $1.14 million. With such a high price tag and limited production, the Edition 130Y Motorsport is undoubtedly a coveted collector’s item.

Mercedes-AMG has once again demonstrated its dedication to pushing the boundaries of automotive performance and design with the Edition 130Y Motorsport. This special version not only pays homage to Mercedes’ racing heritage but also showcases the brand’s commitment to creating unique and exclusive vehicles.
