“MG Unveils Second Generation HS SUV at Goodwood Festival of Speed”

MG has unveiled the second generation of its HS SUV at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, generating excitement among car enthusiasts. With the first customer deliveries set to begin later this month, MG is offering the new HS at competitive prices, starting from £24,995 for the petrol version and £31,495 for the plug-in hybrid option. These prices undercut many similarly sized rivals, making the HS an attractive choice for budget-conscious buyers.

One of the key updates to the HS is the increase in power. The standard petrol engine now produces 168bhp and 203lb ft of torque, providing a slight boost in performance. However, the real star of the show is the plug-in hybrid variant, which sees a significant improvement in power. The electric motor’s contribution has been increased from 121bhp to 207bhp, resulting in an estimated combined output exceeding 300bhp. This enhancement ensures that the HS PHEV delivers a thrilling driving experience.

In addition to the power upgrade, MG has also improved the battery capacity in the HS PHEV. With an upsized 24.7kWh battery, the HS PHEV boasts an impressive claimed EV range of 75 miles. This not only allows for greener driving but also qualifies the HS PHEV for a low BIK tax rate of just 5%. MG claims that considerable fuel savings can be achieved as well, although specific consumption figures have not been released yet.

MG has given the new HS a complete styling overhaul, resulting in a more modern and sophisticated appearance. The wider body, longer length, and increased wheelbase provide extra space for passengers, ensuring a comfortable ride. The sleeker roofline adds to the overall athletic look of the HS. While pictures of the interior have not been shared yet, MG has promised improvements in material quality and space. The inclusion of a pair of 12.3-inch screens with smartphone mirroring and “improved” switchgear suggests that the HS will be equipped with the latest technology and connectivity features.

Practicality is another area where the new HS shines. The boot has been expanded by 44 litres, bringing the total capacity to 507 litres. This increase in storage space makes the HS even more versatile for everyday use. Furthermore, MG offers a comprehensive standard kit list for all variants, including a rear parking camera, keyless entry, and a six-way adjustable driver’s seat. The seven-year/80,000-mile warranty ensures peace of mind for buyers, highlighting MG’s confidence in the quality and reliability of their vehicles.

Overall, the second generation MG HS SUV presents an exciting option in the market. With its competitive pricing, improved power and efficiency, enhanced styling, and practicality, the HS is a compelling choice for those in search of a versatile and affordable SUV. MG continues to demonstrate its commitment to delivering high-quality vehicles that offer great value for money.
