“Mini Countryman Electric: A Pleasant and Powerful SUV with Retro Design and Impressive Interior”

The Mini Countryman Electric is the largest Mini ever built, but it also holds the title for being the fastest and most powerful Mini to date. This new generation introduces the first all-electric Mini Countryman, which faces the challenge of standing out in a crowded market flooded with electric SUVs. However, electric power suits the Mini brand well, as its upbeat and premium styling matches perfectly with the calm and relaxing dynamics of battery-powered cars.

The Mini Countryman Electric range offers two specifications, both equipped with a 66.5kWh battery with a usable capacity of 64.6kWh. The entry-level Countryman E features a single electric motor that produces 201bhp and has a range of 286 miles. On the other hand, the Countryman SE All4 adds a second motor for all-wheel drive and boasts a combined 308bhp. This version can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 5.6 seconds, although its range drops slightly to 266 miles.

In terms of design, the Countryman Electric retains Mini’s signature retro styling with modern SUV design elements. The interior is well-resolved and spacious, making it stand out among its competitors. The use of high-quality materials and clever design choices create a bright and inviting atmosphere. The infotainment system features a round OLED touchscreen that controls most of the car’s functions. However, some users may find the touchscreen reliance distracting, and occasional glitches were noted during testing.

When it comes to performance, the Countryman Electric offers instant acceleration and a smooth, quiet ride. The electric powertrain compensates for the added weight of the vehicle, providing effortless progress. The regenerative braking can be adjusted to offer one-pedal driving or automatically adapt its strength based on road conditions. The handling is described as having a genuine “go-kart” feel, although some may find the ride a bit stiff on bumpy surfaces.

In terms of running costs, the Countryman Electric offers mixed results. The starting price is attractive compared to some rivals, but optional extras and trim levels can quickly increase the price. The tested SE All4 model achieved an average economy of 3.4mpkWh, close to the official figure of 3.6mpkWh. However, the real-world range was less impressive at around 222 miles. Other electric SUVs on the market offer longer ranges at more affordable prices.

Overall, the Mini Countryman Electric is a well-resolved electric SUV that captures the spirit of the Mini brand. It offers a pleasant driving experience, spirited handling, and a classy interior with plenty of character. However, consumers should consider its range limitations and the availability of cheaper electric SUV options in the market. Despite not topping the charts in terms of statistics, the Countryman Electric’s charm and unique design make it a compelling option for Mini enthusiasts.
