“Nio Reveals Six-Seater EL8 EV to Rival BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV”

Chinese premium EV brand Nio has unveiled its latest offering in Europe, the EL8, a six-seater SUV that aims to compete with the likes of the BMW iX and Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV. With its impressive dimensions of 5099 mm long, 1750mm high, and 2199mm wide, the EL8 is Nio’s largest model yet, offering ample space for six people.

The EL8 comes in two models: the Standard Range and the Long Range. The Standard Range is equipped with a 75kWh battery, providing a range of 288 miles according to WLTP. On the other hand, the Long Range model boasts a 100kWh battery, offering a slightly longer range of 316 miles.

Although Nio offers a version of the EL8 with a massive 150kWh battery for an impressive range of 559 miles, it is unlikely to be available in Europe. However, all variants of the EL8 come with four-wheel drive, thanks to a motor on each axle. These motors deliver a staggering power output of 644bhp and 626lb ft of torque.

Nio claims that the Long Range EL8 can accelerate from 0-62mph in just 4.1 seconds and has a maximum towing capacity of 2000kg. The exterior design features Nio’s signature ‘Double Dash’ front lights and an ‘X-Bar’ design feature, along with a large light bar at the rear. The company has focused on enhancing the car’s aerodynamics and efficiency by concealing rear wipers, adding ‘invisible’ roof rails and indicators, resulting in an impressive drag coefficient of 0.25Cd.

To rival the luxurious credentials of its competitors, Nio has equipped the EL8 with dual-chamber air suspension and continuous damping control as standard. These features monitor real-road conditions to improve ride comfort. Additionally, Nio has incorporated its Hydraulic Rebound Stop system, which effectively absorbs bumps and potholes, further enhancing the driving experience.

Inside, the EL8 offers two interior layouts to choose from. One layout includes a center aisle, 14-way adjustable rear seats, and a spacious central armrest. The second layout, called the Executive Console, includes a fridge and digital console. Both layouts feature a standard hot-stone massage feature, ensuring a comfortable ride. Additionally, all EL8 models come with Pet Mode, which maintains the cabin temperature at a comfortable 22 degrees Celsius.

The EL8 boasts an impressive array of technology, including a 16.3-inch head-up display, a 12.8-inch touchscreen infotainment system, and a 6.6-inch digital display for rear passengers, complete with a virtual assistant. The car is equipped with 33 cameras and sensors, some of which are used for an emergency video recording system that activates in the event of airbag deployment or serious accidents. Other cameras and sensors operate the lidar system and other external safety features.

In terms of pricing, the EL8 will start at €82,900 in Germany, which roughly translates to £70,000 in the UK. Initially, the EL8 will be launched in Germany, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the Netherlands. However, its arrival in the UK is still uncertain. Nio is expected to enter the UK market in 2025 and has already established an engineering center in Oxfordshire to give its future models a more “European flavor.” With its combination of advanced technology, luxurious features, and impressive performance, the Nio EL8 aims to make a strong statement in the competitive European EV market.
