OpenAI Releases Enterprise Compliance API for ChatGPT Users

blankOpenAI has introduced new enterprise controls for users of its ChatGPT Enterprise platform, aiming to address concerns surrounding compliance, data security, and access scaling. One of the key features is the Enterprise Compliance API, which provides users with a time-stamped record of their interactions, including conversations, uploaded files, metadata, ChatGPT memory, and workspace users. This record enables enterprises to conduct audits and ensure compliance with data-sharing regulations.

To further enhance compliance capabilities, OpenAI has partnered with several third-party providers, including Forcepoint, Global Relay, Microsoft Purview, Netskope, Palo Alto Networks, Relativity, Smarsh, and zScaler. These integrations offer a range of functionalities such as archiving, audit trails, data redaction and retention, and policy enforcement. By leveraging these integrations, organizations can meet the requirements of various regulatory frameworks like GDPR, HIPAA, and FINRA. Additionally, the integrations provide enterprise legal teams with a comprehensive “paper trail” and a way to verify the proper deletion of personal data.

Managing a large number of users is a common challenge for ChatGPT Enterprise customers. To address this, OpenAI will introduce an identity management system that simplifies permissioning. The System for Cross-domain Identity Management (SCIM) synchronizes user access information and enables account managers to quickly provision or revoke access to the platform. OpenAI plans to release this feature widely in the coming week and has ensured compatibility with popular identity management solutions like Okta Workforce, Microsoft Entra ID, Google Workspace, and Ping.

Furthermore, OpenAI has expanded administrative controls over custom GPTs (Generative Pre-trained Transformers) and chatbots created by employees. Admins now have the ability to specify approved domains that the GPTs can connect to, providing greater control over their usage. Additionally, they can create user groups, manage sharing permissions, remove GPTs, transfer ownership, and approve external GPTs. These controls complement existing features like single sign-on, custom data retention, and encryption, further enhancing data security and governance.

OpenAI launched ChatGPT Enterprise in 2023 as a premium option for its popular ChatGPT platform. Designed for enterprise use, ChatGPT Enterprise offers enhanced security, larger context windows, and faster results compared to other paid products like ChatGPT Plus and ChatGPT Teams. OpenAI’s COO, Brad Lightcap, has emphasized the company’s focus on the enterprise sector in 2024, with ChatGPT Enterprise playing a significant role in this strategy. However, OpenAI also provides APIs that allow companies to incorporate OpenAI’s foundation models into their own applications.

ChatGPT Enterprise is powered by OpenAI’s GPT-4o model, which represents the company’s latest advancement in AI technology. Recently, OpenAI also introduced GPT-4o mini, a smaller version of this flagship model. These advancements highlight OpenAI’s commitment to delivering cutting-edge AI solutions to meet the evolving needs of enterprises in various industries.
