“Order Books Open for Skoda Kodiaq iV Plug-in Hybrid SUV with 75-Mile Electric Range”

Skoda has opened order books for the plug-in hybrid version of its Kodiaq SUV, called the Kodiaq iV, in the UK. The new model offers an electric range of 75 miles and is priced at £41,935. The powertrain combines a 148bhp turbocharged petrol engine with a gearbox-mounted 114bhp electric motor, resulting in a total output of 204bhp and 258lb ft of torque. The battery has a capacity of 25.7kWh, with 19.7kWh usable, and can be charged at up to 50kW on a DC rapid charger.

The Kodiaq iV is priced at £5,290 more than the comparable petrol model, which uses the same engine but with 48V mild-hybrid assistance. The entry-level SE trim comes with LED lights, heated front seats, and keyless start. The SE L trim adds 19in wheels, matrix headlights, an electrically adjustable driver’s seat, and leather upholstery. A range-topping Sportline variant will be available later this year.

The second-generation Kodiaq features a refreshed design with squared-off wheel arches, a prominent hexagonal grille, and a heavily sculpted bonnet. It also showcases Skoda’s new logo for the first time on a production car. The design upgrades not only enhance the SUV’s aesthetics but also improve its aerodynamics.

In terms of dimensions, the new Kodiaq is 61mm longer than its predecessor and has a wheelbase of 2791mm, offering more space for passengers and increased boot capacity. The optional third row of seats now provides 920mm of headroom, and even with all seats in place, the luggage capacity is pegged at 340 litres.

Inside the cabin, the Kodiaq features a redesigned control suite with a 10.0in digital gauge cluster, an optional head-up display, and a new free-standing touchscreen. The interior can be specified in one of four simple ‘design selection’ packages, each with a focus on reducing the SUV’s environmental footprint.

The Kodiaq iV is available with two turbocharged four-cylinder petrol or diesel engines, ranging from 148bhp to 201bhp. The entry-level petrol engine is equipped with 48V mild-hybrid technology and cylinder-deactivation for improved fuel efficiency. Skoda has not yet released official MPG or emissions figures for the model.

The Kodiaq range currently includes the Sportline trim as the top-of-the-line variant, featuring black exterior and interior trim elements, colour-coded lower bodywork, and bespoke alloy wheel designs. It comes with the Kodiaq’s new Dynamic Chassis Control suspension package, offering improved dynamics and refinement.

Overall, the Skoda Kodiaq iV offers a compelling plug-in hybrid option in the SUV market. Its electric range of 75 miles provides sufficient flexibility for daily commutes and short trips, while the combination of petrol and electric power delivers impressive performance. The refreshed design and upgraded interior further enhance the appeal of the Kodiaq, making it a strong contender in its segment.
