Peugeot CEO Confirms Focus on Electrification and Unlikely Expansion of PSE Range

Peugeot Chooses Electrification Over Expansion of PSE Range

Peugeot has made the decision not to expand its high-performance PSE range beyond the hot 508 model. The company’s CEO, Linda Jackson, stated that the focus is on the brand’s drive towards full electrification. Peugeot is part of Stellantis, and the group has allocated €40 billion for electrification. By the end of this year, Peugeot aims to have a full electric car lineup, with every model offering an electric version.

While Peugeot is prioritizing electrification, Jackson did not completely rule out the possibility of a performance car built on one of the modular EV platforms used across the Stellantis group. She mentioned that there is nothing certain at the moment but left the door open for future possibilities.

Peugeot’s Interest in Motorsport and a Road-Going Model

Peugeot’s sole interest in motorsport is its World Endurance Championship (WEC) program. Jackson was present in Imola, Italy, to monitor the debut of Peugeot’s 2024 version of its 9X8 Hypercar. When asked about the potential for an all-electric Pikes Peak mountain climb racer, Jackson expressed openness to the idea.

Regarding the need for a road-going model with a direct link to the 9X8 campaign and its complex four-wheel-drive hybrid powertrain, Jackson mentioned that it is still under debate. While she acknowledged that having a road car could help build awareness, engineering and durability can be achieved without one. She emphasized that no decision has been made but did not dismiss the possibility.

Building a 9X8 for the Road

Previously, Jackson stated that Peugeot would be open to building a road version of the 9X8 if there was a request from a party willing to finance it. However, when asked if any such request had been made, she responded that she was not aware of any.

Peugeot’s Commitment to Electrification

Peugeot’s decision to focus on full electrification aligns with the industry-wide trend towards electric vehicles (EVs). Many automakers are investing heavily in EV technology and expanding their electric lineups. Peugeot’s commitment to a full electric car lineup by the end of the year demonstrates its dedication to meeting the demands of the evolving market.

The Future of Peugeot’s Performance Range

While Peugeot’s current focus is on electrification, the future of its performance range remains uncertain. The company’s decision not to expand the PSE range beyond the 508 does not completely rule out the possibility of future performance models. Peugeot may explore the potential of performance cars built on modular EV platforms used by the Stellantis group. The market’s response to Peugeot’s electrification efforts and the demand for high-performance electric vehicles could influence the brand’s future direction.

In conclusion, Peugeot’s decision to prioritize electrification over expanding its high-performance PSE range reflects the industry’s shift towards electric vehicles. The company aims to have a full electric car lineup by the end of this year. While Peugeot is open to the idea of performance cars in the future, its current focus is on building awareness and developing electric technology. The market’s response will ultimately shape Peugeot’s future decisions regarding its performance range.
