BMW M2 CS: A Reinvented Track Beast Set to Dominate
The highly anticipated BMW M2 CS is making a comeback next year, promising even more power, a track-focused chassis, and a bold new look. Building on the success of its predecessor, the new M2 CS is expected to incorporate weight-saving measures and handling upgrades that will elevate its performance on the road and the track.
One of the most significant enhancements will be the use of lightweight alloys, a carbon fiber roof, and carbon fiber bucket seats, which will contribute to reducing the car’s overall weight. Additionally, reworked bumpers with larger air intakes, an aggressive rear spoiler for increased downforce, and a more hardcore braking system will further enhance the car’s aerodynamics and cornering capabilities.
While specifics about power increases have not been disclosed, industry experts speculate that the M2 CS may adopt the ‘S58’ engine from the larger M3 and M4 models. This engine has proven to be more potent than the current ‘B58’ 3.0-liter straight-six engine found in the M2. If this upgrade materializes, the M2 CS could potentially exceed 500bhp, resulting in a significant boost in performance.
True to its heritage, the BMW M2 CS will only be offered with rear-wheel drive. However, unlike its predecessor, it will reportedly come exclusively with an eight-speed automatic gearbox. BMW has indicated that it will continue offering manual transmissions for existing models as long as there is demand, but the development of new manual gearboxes is not a priority.
Production of the M2 CS is expected to commence in August 2025 and last for approximately one year. Before that, BMW plans to update the standard M2 model, increasing its power output from 453bhp to 469bhp and introducing subtle styling tweaks such as new wheels and color options. These updates will improve the M2’s performance and visual appeal, making it an even more enticing option for enthusiasts.
While full details of the M2 CS are yet to be released, it is expected that the price will increase from around £65,000 to a figure closer to £70,000. The range-topping CS variant may even surpass the mid-£80,000 mark. These price hikes are in line with the recent cost adjustments seen in the updated M4, reflecting the significant upgrades and exclusivity of the CS variant.
