Revitalize Your Ferrari F355 with Evoluto’s Modern Upgrades

Reviving the Ferrari F355: Evoluto’s Transformation of a Classic

Introduction:

Ten years ago, a remarkable journey was undertaken, covering over 5,000 miles from California to Newfoundland, Canada, in a Ferrari F355. Despite the warnings from owners about its expensive and complex flaws, the F355 still captivated drivers with its irresistible charm. Now, UK company Evoluto Automobili has taken on the challenge of rectifying these issues while also giving the F355 a modern makeover with the help of Ian Callum’s design consultancy. Let’s explore the meticulous work that has gone into improving the F355 and giving it a new lease on life.

Addressing Mechanical Flaws:

Evoluto’s main focus was on the F355’s problematic heart – the 3.5-liter five-valve V8 engine. Common issues such as soft valve guides, failing exhaust manifolds, and cracked quill shafts were addressed through an extensive overhaul. The donor car is stripped back to the chassis and cleaned, with additional spot welds and carbon bracing added to increase chassis stiffness by 23%. The engine itself is torn down, with heads CNC ported and cylinder inlet ports enlarged. A new, larger inlet camshaft and solid lifters contribute to improved stability at high revs, while a titanium exhaust maintains the original’s thrilling sound. With the addition of a new ECU and wiring, the F355’s output is boosted from 380 to 420 horsepower, greatly enhancing reliability.

Enhanced Performance and Handling:

Evoluto’s attention to detail extends to the suspension and braking systems. The track is widened slightly, and a refined damper specification is still being decided. Brembo slotted discs with six-piston calipers in the front and four in the rear provide enhanced stopping power, concealed behind forged 19-inch wheels. In a nod to keeping the back end playful, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires have been chosen over stickier alternatives. The combination of these modifications promises improved performance and handling without sacrificing the original car’s character.

Aesthetic Upgrades:

Evoluto has collaborated with Ian Callum’s design consultancy to create a new bundle of all-carbon-fiber body panels for the F355. These panels accentuate the car’s natural curves and feature several design enhancements. Notable changes include a larger front intake with a prominent carbon splitter, LED pop-up headlights, LED DRLs and marker lights, widened fenders, reprofiled intake door design, flush handles, and tweaked side mirror supports. At the rear, three vents clear air from the engine bay, leading to a mesh grille and four LED taillights. These carbon panels not only elevate the car’s appearance but also contribute to a weight reduction from 3,135 to 2,756 pounds, before customer options.

Preserving the Soul of the F355:

Despite the comprehensive upgrades, Evoluto is committed to maintaining the character and accessibility of the original F355. Amjad Ali, formerly of Gunther Werks and now part of the Evoluto team, explained that the goal is not to surpass newer models in terms of handling or speed. Instead, the focus is on delivering a lively and enjoyable driving experience on public roads at legal speeds. By offering engine upgrades up to 3.9 liters and 500 horsepower, Evoluto strikes a balance between honoring the F355’s heritage and incorporating modern enhancements.

Customer Customization:

The interior of the F355 demo car showcases a prominent use of blue Alcantara, complemented by mood lighting. However, customers will have the freedom to select their own materials and colors, tailoring the interior to their preferences. This customization ensures that each car becomes a unique expression of its owner’s taste.

Availability and Debut:

Evoluto plans to produce 55 of these revitalized F355 models, with a price tag of £690,000 ($887,333 U.S.) each. With half of the production already accounted for, the full unveiling is scheduled to take place during Monterey Car Week in the coming month.

Conclusion:

Evoluto Automobili’s dedication to reviving and enhancing the Ferrari F355 is a testament to the timeless appeal of this classic car. Through meticulous mechanical improvements, performance enhancements, aesthetic upgrades, and customization options, Evoluto successfully strikes a balance between preserving the F355’s original charm and infusing it with contemporary elements. The demand for these revitalized F355 models exemplifies the enduring allure of iconic automobiles and the unwavering passion of enthusiasts worldwide.
