The Bedeo Group, a UK-based company specializing in electric vehicle integration and battery production, has unveiled their latest creation – a converted Land Rover Defender 110. What sets this electromod apart is the use of in-wheel motors from Protean Electric, a leading manufacturer of electric motors. These motors offer precise control over each wheel, improving performance and handling. However, the real breakthrough lies in the potential they hold for revolutionizing vehicle design.

By eliminating the need for axles, driveshafts, and subframes, in-wheel motors pave the way for a new era of architecture design. This leads to a reduction in overall weight and cost, as smaller batteries can be used without sacrificing performance. The result is lighter, smaller, and more affordable electric vehicles. Each in-wheel motor produces 80bhp and 479lb ft of torque, although the power output is limited to ensure drivability. The quoted range is 153 miles, and the vehicle comes with a standard 22KW charger, with an optional 50kW fast charger.

Instead of selling the converted vehicles directly, Bedeo aims to offer their drivetrain technology to companies specializing in conversions, allowing them to upgrade the chassis and interior along with the electric powertrain.
