Zendata: Revolutionizing Data Security and AI Governance for Businesses
San Francisco-based startup Zendata has recently emerged from stealth mode with a $2 million seed funding round led by PayPal Ventures, First-hand Alliance, Geek Ventures, and Altari Ventures. The company’s mission is to transform how organizations manage data security, AI governance, and privacy throughout the entire data lifecycle.
The founders of Zendata, Narayana Pappu and Pedro Pinango, have extensive industry experience. Their no-code platform offers businesses comprehensive insights and control over data usage, enabling informed decision-making and compliance with evolving data privacy and AI governance regulations.
Addressing Context, Data Flow, and Awareness
In an interview with VentureBeat, CEO Narayana Pappu emphasized the unique aspects of Zendata’s platform. He explained that the platform addresses issues of context (how information is used), data flow (who it is shared with), and awareness (how it aligns with internal policies). Zendata provides solutions across client-side, application, and model layers.
The platform’s controls protect sensitive data and mitigate risks by helping organizations understand if they are oversharing information with third parties, validating data used for models, and ensuring secure transmission and logging of data to approved locations.
Rapid Implementation and Continuous Compliance
Zendata’s no-code approach offers rapid implementation, democratized access, continuous compliance, scalability, and centralized control. Pappu highlighted that implementing a data risk management program typically takes 6-8 months, but Zendata’s platform allows businesses to quickly adapt to evolving regulations, reduce reliance on engineering resources, and efficiently manage data risks.
The company has already achieved early customer successes in securing public-facing surfaces of global companies and managing privacy risks of models. Zendata’s platform has received positive reviews on G2, a leading software review platform.
Bridging the Gap between Engineering and Policy Organizations
As the roles of CIO, CISO, and CDO converge in the era of AI adoption, Zendata aims to bridge the gap between engineering organizations (data creators) and policy organizations (data managers). The seed funding will be used to develop the platform’s remediation capabilities and integrate with Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) solutions and existing platforms.
Participating in Race Capital’s highly selective Topline program is expected to open up new opportunities for growth and future funding for Zendata.
Addressing the Growing Need for Effective AI and Data Risk Management
With data breaches becoming increasingly common and cybercriminals exploiting vulnerabilities, Zendata’s solution is well-positioned to meet the growing market demand for effective AI and data risk management. The company envisions enabling transparent and equitable collection and use of consumer data, creating a virtuous data trust cycle.
