Revolutionizing Semiconductor Design with Customizable RISC-V Processors | Akeana Launches Product Line

Akeana, a semiconductor design company, has recently launched its product line of intellectual property (IP) solutions. The company, formed by the team behind Marvell’s ThunderX2 server chips, aims to disrupt the industry by offering customizable IP solutions for various semiconductor markets. Akeana wants to move beyond the legacy vendors and architectures like Arm and provide equitable licensing options and processors that exceed current performance gaps.

In terms of AI, Akeana is deeply engaged with tier one customers and has solutions that are being evaluated. The company will include AI accelerated processors that support AI datatypes, processing, and data bandwidth requirements. This shows Akeana’s commitment to meeting the demands of AI compute.

Akeana has released four different IP solutions. The Akeana 100 Series is a line of highly configurable processors with 32-bit RISC-V cores that support a range of applications. The Akeana 1000 Series includes 64-bit RISC-V cores and supports rich operating systems while maintaining low power consumption. These processors also have optional AI computation extensions. The Akeana 5000 Series represents extreme performance processors optimized for demanding applications in next-gen devices, data centers, and cloud infrastructure. Akeana also offers Processor System IP, which includes IP blocks needed for creating processor SoCs.

The company has received over $100 million in funding from investors like Kleiner Perkins, Mayfield, and Fidelity. This support highlights the potential of Akeana’s technology. Akeana’s AI Matrix computation engine is designed to offload Matrix Multiply operations for AI acceleration.

Akeana’s CEO, Rabin Sugumar, believes that their rich portfolio of customizable cores and special features will revolutionize the industry. Mayfield’s managing partner, Navin Chaddha, also expresses confidence in Akeana, stating that the company has everything needed to become a breakout company. Mamoon Hamid, partner at Kleiner Perkins, notes that the majority of top semiconductor firms are transitioning to RISC-V, with many choosing Akeana for its performance.

Akeana is a driving force of change in semiconductor IP innovation and performance. The company is dedicated to delivering world-class RISC-V-based compute, interconnect, and accelerator IP solutions. With its highly configurable technology and equitable licensing options, Akeana aims to provide customers with cutting-edge capabilities to meet their unique semiconductor design needs.

While Akeana competes against other processor and processor system IP companies, its value proposition lies in delivering the highest performance processors and the broadest product portfolio. The company’s chips scale to large multi-core systems, and customization is a key focus. This means that Akeana offers all the processor IP that customers need, allowing them to achieve high performance in minimal time to market.

With its experienced team and commitment to meeting industry needs, Akeana is positioned as a leader in semiconductor IP innovation. The company’s dedication to AI-intensive use cases and its involvement in industry initiatives like RISC-V further solidify its position as a driving force in the industry.
