Rivian Launches New Travel Kitchen for Outdoor Enthusiasts

Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, has released a new and improved version of its camp kitchen, now called the “travel kitchen.” This move is part of Rivian’s strategy to establish itself as a brand that caters to outdoor enthusiasts while generating additional revenue.

The original camp kitchen, introduced as a prototype in 2019, garnered significant attention but was never actually sold. It was a large and bulky unit designed to fit into the gear tunnel of Rivian’s R1T pickup truck. However, the newly launched travel kitchen is smaller, more compact, and available for immediate purchase at a price of $1,400.

Unlike its predecessor, the travel kitchen does not require a special shuttle system to slide in and out of the gear tunnel. Instead, it can easily be folded up and moved from the frunk or gear tunnel to the tailgate for use. This portability makes it much more convenient for outdoor cooking.

The travel kitchen features a two-burner induction cooktop optimized to share 1,500W of power. It can be powered by Rivian’s R1 vehicles or any 120V power source with 15A of current. This versatility allows users to cook their meals using renewable power sources, aligning with Rivian’s commitment to sustainability.

In addition to the cooktop, the travel kitchen includes a food-safe prep space that remains level on tailgates, making it easier to prepare meals. It also features dimmable lights with retractable poles, which can be set up for nighttime cooking or to create aesthetically pleasing moments for social media.

Rivian’s focus on sustainability extends to the materials used in the travel kitchen. The cutting board is made from recycled materials, and the interior of the kitchen is constructed from castor plants. These eco-friendly choices align with Rivian’s goal of becoming an environmentally sustainable company.

To complement the travel kitchen, Rivian has partnered with outdoor company Snow Peak to offer a range of add-on accessories. These include cookware, utensils, an apron, and even a coffee grinder. By partnering with an established outdoor brand, Rivian ensures the quality and relevance of these accessories to outdoor enthusiasts.

Overall, Rivian’s release of the travel kitchen demonstrates its commitment to catering to the needs of outdoor enthusiasts while embracing sustainability. The smaller and more affordable design, coupled with the convenience and eco-friendly features, make it an attractive accessory for Rivian vehicle owners and outdoor adventurers alike.
