Rivian Unveils Upgraded R1T Pickup Truck and R1S SUV: More Range, Power, and Speed

Rivian, the electric vehicle manufacturer, recently unveiled its latest models, the R1T pickup truck and R1S SUV. These vehicles have undergone significant upgrades in terms of range, power, and software improvements. The R1T comes with a new tri-motor system that delivers an impressive 850 horsepower and can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just 2.9 seconds, while offering a range of approximately 380 miles. By enabling Conserve Mode, the range can be extended to 410 miles. On the other hand, the quad motor version of the R1T boasts an astounding 1,200lb-ft of torque with launch mode activated, allowing it to reach 0 to 60 mph in an astonishing 2.5 seconds and complete a quarter mile in just 10.5 seconds.

One of the key updates is the improved battery pack capacity. The Rivian Max battery pack now offers up to 420 miles of range, while the Larger battery pack provides a maximum range of 330 miles. These improvements not only enhance the vehicles’ capabilities but also address one of the main concerns surrounding electric vehicles – range anxiety.

The public response to these new models has been largely positive. Many users on various platforms such as X and Reddit have praised the design, range, and speed of the R1T and R1S. Some have even compared the R1T to the Tesla Cybertruck, stating that it is “basically the cybertruck I wanted.” The interior of the vehicles has also garnered positive feedback, with users commending the attention to detail and quality of the materials used.

However, not everyone is completely satisfied with the new offerings from Rivian. Some users have expressed concerns about the speed upgrades and whether they are necessary for potential owners. Additionally, there are those who still prefer the material choices and interior quality of the Tesla Cybertruck. Some users are also eagerly awaiting the release of the Rivian R2 and R3 models, indicating that they may hold out for future offerings from the company.

One common concern among potential buyers is the high starting prices of the R1T and R1S. The R1S starts at $75,900, while the R1T starts at $69,900. These prices may deter some potential EV buyers, especially considering the increasing affordability of electric vehicles from other manufacturers.

In terms of engineering and software improvements, Rivian has made significant strides. They have managed to reduce the amount of cabling by 1.8 miles, resulting in a weight reduction of 44 pounds for the second-generation models. This optimization of electronics has improved vehicle performance and overall efficiency.

Overall, Rivian’s latest models have generated excitement and positive feedback from the public. The upgrades in range, power, and software improvements have addressed many concerns surrounding electric vehicles. However, some potential buyers still have reservations about the speed upgrades and pricing. Nevertheless, Rivian’s commitment to innovation and continuous improvement is evident in their latest offerings, making them a prominent player in the EV market.
