SAP Deepens Relationship with Amazon Web Services, Integrating AI Development Service and Upgrading Infrastructure

blankSAP, an enterprise application software maker, is strengthening its partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) by integrating AI capabilities. One of the key integrations involves SAP’s AI Core platform, which now supports the Amazon Bedrock AI development service. This collaboration allows companies, particularly those in regulated industries, to explore generative AI and experiment with large language models.

The incorporation of Amazon Bedrock into SAP’s Business Technology Platform enables customers to access a variety of supported large language models. These models include Amazon Titan, Anthropic’s Claude 3 Opus, Cohere’s Command R models, Mistral 7B and Mixtral 8x7B, and Meta’s Llama, Stable Diffusion, and AI21 Labs. With these models, enterprise developers can enhance key business processes built on SAP, such as streamlining the auditing process in SAP’s S/4HANA Central Finance.

Matt Wood, AWS’ vice president of AI products, expresses his excitement about the collaboration, stating that he has not seen this level of enthusiasm from customers around any technology since the early days of AWS itself. He explains that enterprise customers are taking deliberate steps in adopting generative AI and moving it into production. Woods also highlights that regulated firms, including those in the financial sector, life sciences, and the public sector, are embracing generative AI faster than other enterprises. These organizations have the data quality, security measures, and data strategy necessary to successfully implement generative AI.

In addition to the integration of Amazon Bedrock, SAP is also expanding its use of Amazon chips to power its AI infrastructure. The company plans to upgrade its HANA Cloud from Graviton3 to Graviton4 chips. Moreover, SAP will utilize AWS Trainium and Inferentia chips for training and deploying future SAP Business AI products. This upgrade will enhance performance while reducing energy consumption and costs.

Dr. Philipp Herzig, SAP’s chief AI officer, praises AWS’s Graviton4 chips for their price, performance, and suitability for database and enterprise workloads. He sees the integration of these chips as a leap forward in terms of efficiency and reliability. The upgraded chips will support SAP’s various platforms, including BTP, Datasphere, Analytics Cloud, and Cloud ALM solution.
