Skoda Elroq Prototype Review: A Practical and Comfortable Mini Electric SUV with Strong Range

Skoda is set to release its smallest electric SUV, the Skoda Elroq, which can be seen as the electric version of the Skoda Karoq. The Elroq is built on the same MEB platform as the Ford Explorer and is about 160mm shorter than its larger sibling, the Skoda Enyaq. The design of the Elroq features Skoda’s new ‘Modern Solid’ theme, with a Tech-Deck Face that includes all-LED lights and a gloss-black panel housing safety assistance system sensors. The Elroq prioritizes aerodynamics, with a sculpted clamshell bonnet and a Cd of 0.26.

The Elroq will be available in different models based on battery size, including the 50, 60, and 85. The 85 model, which was tested, has 281bhp and can travel up to 348 miles on a single charge. It can charge at up to 175kW, allowing it to go from 10% to 80% in approximately 25 minutes. The interior of the Elroq is similar to the Enyaq, with sustainable materials and features such as a driver’s display and infotainment screen. The Elroq offers ample space for four tall adults and has a 470-litre boot.

In terms of performance, the Elroq accelerates quickly initially but loses some acceleration after reaching higher speeds. The handling of the Elroq is comfortable and composed, with a slightly lazier turn-in compared to the Explorer. The steering is nicely weighted and accurate but lacks some feel.

Overall, the Skoda Elroq is a practical and comfortable electric SUV with good range and driving manners. It offers a smaller and potentially more affordable alternative to the Skoda Enyaq. However, it may not be the most exciting option on the market.
