“Smart Reveals Its Largest EV Yet: The #5 SUV with Off-Road Character”

Smart has unveiled its largest model yet, the #5, which aims to attract buyers of large SUVs with its off-road capabilities. The car features a 100kWh battery that provides a range of 348 miles and can charge from 10-80% in just 15 minutes thanks to its 800V electrical architecture. A smaller battery version will be available in Europe next summer.

Built on the Geely SEA2 platform, the #5 measures 4705mm long, 1920mm wide, and 1705mm tall, making it similar in size to the Peugeot 5008. However, it is not a seven-seater. While it retains Smart’s modern design cues, such as concealed door handles and rounded edges, it stands out from the rest of the lineup with its boxier and more rugged appearance.

Inside, the #5 features dual 13-inch OLED infotainment touchscreens on the dashboard, along with a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster for the driver. Additionally, it introduces a new 25.6-inch augmented reality head-up display. Another unique feature of the #5 is that all of its seats are designed to function as makeshift beds, aligning with its outdoor adventure focus.

Although power figures have not been released, it is expected that the #5 will offer a dual-motor model with 637bhp, making it more powerful than the smaller #1 and #3 crossovers, as well as the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT electric sports SUVs.

The #5 will be launched in two versions: Premium and Summit Edition. The Summit Edition will come equipped with additional features such as a roof-mounted light bar, an electric trailer hitch, underbody protection, side steps, and a roof box. The expected starting price for the #5 in the UK is around £35,000, with pricing for other markets to be reviewed later this year due to potential EU import tariffs on Chinese-made EVs.

Overall, the Smart #5 is a notable addition to the Smart lineup, offering impressive range, quick charging capabilities, and a spacious interior with advanced technology features. Its off-road character and unique design elements make it a compelling option for SUV buyers looking to transition to electric vehicles.
