“Smart Unveils Its Largest and Most Powerful SUV Yet: The #5 Model”

Smart is set to unveil its largest and most powerful model, the #5 SUV, on August 28th. The event will take place in Australia, a market where Smart aims to expand its presence. This will be the first time the public gets a glimpse of the brand’s third model, following the release of pictures by China’s ministry of technology in June. The most impressive feature of the #5 SUV is its 637bhp output, surpassing the power of the smaller #1 and #3 crossovers by over 200bhp. In fact, it even outperforms the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT.

Interestingly, unlike its performance-oriented siblings, the #5 SUV does not bear the Brabus branding. While detailed performance figures are yet to be revealed, it is expected that the top-of-the-line variant of the #5 SUV will be able to accelerate from 0 to 62mph in under 3.0 seconds.

The #5 SUV will be available in various configurations, including a less potent dual-motor option with 579bhp, as well as two single-motor, rear-driven models with either 335bhp or 358bhp. Smart claims that the most efficient version of the #5 SUV will offer a range of up to 342 miles. Although the exact battery capacities have not been disclosed, Smart has confirmed that the model will be available with more than 100kWh in its longest-range form. Additionally, the #5 SUV will feature an 800V electrical architecture that allows for a 10-80% charge in just 15 minutes.

The design of the #5 SUV stays true to the blocky proportions of the concept, but with a more road-focused positioning. It sits lower and has a more urban appeal compared to the concept’s off-road ethos. While no interior images have been released, it is believed that the final cabin will resemble the concept’s digital-heavy, minimalist arrangement.

Production of the #5 SUV will take place at Geely’s manufacturing facility in Xi’an, China. Smart, which is jointly owned by Mercedes-Benz and Geely, faces challenges in exporting the #5 SUV due to new import tariffs on Chinese-made EVs in the EU. The starting price for the #5 SUV in the UK is expected to be around £35,000.

In conclusion, Smart’s upcoming #5 SUV promises to be a game-changer in the electric SUV market. With its impressive power output, long range, and quick charging capabilities, it is poised to compete with top contenders in its segment. Although the export potential may be hindered by import tariffs, the #5 SUV is set to make a significant impact in markets where it becomes available.
