South Korean Game Studio NDUS Interactive Raises $7.5M for Third-Person Shooter Xociety

South Korean game studio NDUS Interactive has secured $7.5 million in funding for its third-person shooter game, Xociety. The funding round was led by Hashed and the Sui Foundation, with participation from other notable gaming entities such as Spartan, Neoclassic, Bigbrain Holdings, and Krafton. Xociety recently underwent beta testing, attracting over 3,000 users from 76 countries and accumulating more than 11,000 hours of playtime. Impressively, the test managed to retain over 77% of players for a week or longer.

NDUS Interactive is developing Xociety with a focus on integrating RPG mechanics and implementing a new reward system that prioritizes player engagement and skill. The game introduces an innovative in-game corporation system, allowing players to own shares and manage their own companies and economic entities within the game world.

The team behind Xociety includes industry veterans with extensive experience in building successful gaming services. Myoungjin Lee, known for his work on Ragnarok, and Sang Chung, former Head of PlayDapp, are among the talented individuals involved in the project. Their expertise is crucial in developing a high-quality and engaging game that stands out in the Web3 space.

Xociety has partnered with Mysten Labs for Web3 games. The collaboration aims to leverage Mysten Labs’ technologies to enhance the gaming experience and explore the possibilities of Web3. Greg Siourounis, managing director of Sui Foundation, expressed excitement about the partnership, emphasizing how Sui’s high throughput and instant settlement speeds will allow players to experience the best of what gaming powered by Web3 has to offer.

Described as a “triple-A” game, Xociety combines player-versus-player (PvP) and player-versus-environment (PvE) elements with RPG mechanics. The goal is to innovate within the Web3 gaming segment and provide players with an immersive and dynamic gaming experience. Unlike traditional FPS games, where individual player actions have minimal impact on the overall game environment, Xociety introduces decision-making mechanics that create ripple effects throughout the gameplay and environment.

NDUS Interactive was founded in January 2022 and has a team of 33 people. Many members of the core leadership team have experience working at renowned global game companies such as NCSoft, Nexon, and Krafton. Jeffrey Kim, lead director at NDUS Interactive, brings 20 years of experience and has led various development projects for NCSoft and Nexon.

The company sees blockchain technology as the solution to enable safe and transparent transactions of in-game assets without relying on centralized authorities or intermediaries. By adopting Web 3.0 technology, NDUS aims to create a fair and decentralized gaming ecosystem that empowers players with true ownership and control over their digital assets. Web 3.0 also enables interoperability, allowing for content expansion through leveraging partner assets as additional game content.

Overall, NDUS Interactive’s funding success and the development of Xociety showcase the growing potential of Web3 games and the integration of blockchain technology in the gaming industry. With its unique gameplay mechanics and emphasis on player experience, Xociety aims to redefine gaming experiences and provide players with unprecedented control over their in-game actions and assets.
