Stability AI Teams Up with Amazon Web Services to Expand Text-to-Image AI Models on Amazon Bedrock

Stability AI Expands Partnership with Amazon Web Services to Bring More Text-to-Image AI Models to Amazon Bedrock

Stability AI, a leading provider of text-to-image generative AI tools, has announced an expanded partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS) to bring three new AI models to the Amazon Bedrock service. This move comes as Stability AI seeks to solidify its position in an increasingly competitive market.

Prior to this announcement, Stability AI had already made its older SDXL model available on Amazon Bedrock. However, with the new partnership, the company is introducing three of its most sophisticated text-to-image models: Stable Image Ultra, Stable Diffusion 3 Large, and Stable Image Core. Each model offers unique strengths and caters to a wide range of use cases, providing enterprise users with the flexibility to choose the most suitable model for their specific needs.

This collaboration with AWS adds to the growing list of models available on Amazon Bedrock. AWS already offers multiple image models, including its own Titan model. By expanding its presence on Amazon Bedrock, Stability AI aims to reach a broader customer base and enhance its go-to-market options.

Inside the Stable Diffusion Text-to-Image AI Model Lineup

Stability AI initially started with its Stable Diffusion model but has since developed multiple variations of the model to cater to different requirements. These variations differ in size, with larger models offering more power but also requiring additional resources and costs.

In February of this year, Stability AI unveiled Stable Diffusion 3.0 as a preview, which later became fully available in April through an API. In June, the company introduced the Stable Diffusion Medium model and rebranded the original sized model as Stable Diffusion Large. Notably, Stability AI quietly released Stable Diffusion Ultra via API without making a formal announcement.

Scott Trowbridge, VP of Business Development at Stability AI, explained that Stable Image Ultra is the flagship model, combining the power of SD3 Large with advanced workflows to deliver the highest quality images. This model is designed for industries that require unparalleled visual fidelity, such as marketing, advertising, and architecture. On the other hand, Stable Image Core is based on SDXL and aims to provide a faster and more affordable option.

It’s worth noting that Stability AI has not made Stable Diffusion 3 Medium available on Amazon Bedrock initially. Trowbridge mentioned that SD3 Medium, a two billion parameter model, is suitable for running on consumer PCs, laptops, and enterprise-tier GPUs. The model is available for self-hosting and via Stability AI’s API.

Stability AI’s Growing Go-to-Market Options

Over the past year, Stability AI has been working on expanding its go-to-market options. In December 2023, the company introduced a membership model to create a commercial business and generate revenue. Stability AI also offers the Stable Assistant chatbot, which provides access to models and charges users based on usage via the API or Stable Assistant.

However, the company has faced operational challenges, including the resignation of its founder and CEO, Emad Mostaque, in March. Mostaque was eventually replaced by new CEO Prem Akkaraju in June, along with a new infusion of capital.

While it remains unclear how the cost of running the models on Amazon Bedrock compares to other methods, the partnership offers Stability AI additional revenue opportunities. Trowbridge stated that Stability AI is always considering ways to expand accessibility to its models, including through cloud service providers and other model service providers. The Amazon Bedrock deal is likely just the beginning of Stability AI’s collaborations with cloud providers.

In conclusion, Stability AI’s expanded partnership with Amazon Web Services represents a significant step towards solidifying its position in the text-to-image generative AI market. By offering a range of sophisticated models on Amazon Bedrock, Stability AI aims to meet the diverse needs of enterprise users and expand its revenue streams. This collaboration also highlights the company’s commitment to innovation and accessibility, positioning Stability AI as a key player in the AI industry.
