Synopsys Enhances Chip Designs Through Acquisition of Intrinsic ID

Synopsys, a leading provider of semiconductor intellectual property (IP) solutions, has announced the acquisition of Intrinsic ID, a provider of Physical Unclonable Function (PUF) IP. This strategic move aims to bolster Synopsys’ semiconductor IP offerings and expand its portfolio.

The acquisition of Intrinsic ID brings not only proven PUF IP technology but also a team of experienced research and development engineers who specialize in PUF technology. Joachim Kunkel, the general manager of the solutions group at Synopsys, highlighted the growing importance of PUF technology in today’s interconnected landscape. He mentioned its applications in identification and product tracking.

With Intrinsic ID’s expertise, Synopsys plans to establish a center of excellence for PUF technology in Eindhoven, Netherlands. This will enable Synopsys to expand its research and development operations and further enhance its semiconductor IP offerings.

Synopsys is already known for its comprehensive portfolio of silicon-proven semiconductor IP solutions. Their portfolio includes logic libraries, embedded memories, analog IP, wired and wireless interface IP, security IP, embedded processors, and subsystems. The company’s IP Accelerated initiative aims to expedite IP integration and silicon bring-up by offering architecture design expertise, hardening, and signal/power integrity analysis.

This acquisition further strengthens Synopsys’ position as a leader in the semiconductor IP market. By adding Intrinsic ID’s PUF IP technology to their portfolio, Synopsys empowers system-on-chip (SoC) designers worldwide to enhance security and protect their chips through the generation of unique identifiers.

In conclusion, Synopsys’ acquisition of Intrinsic ID marks a significant expansion of its semiconductor IP portfolio. This strategic move allows Synopsys to offer enhanced security and protection for SoC designs through the addition of proven PUF IP technology. With the establishment of a center of excellence for PUF technology in the Netherlands, Synopsys is poised to further advance its research and development operations and solidify its position as a leader in the semiconductor IP market.
