Tesla Cybertruck Recall: Over 11,000 Vehicles Affected by Windshield Wiper Issue

Tesla Cybertruck Recalled for Windshield Wiper Issue

Tesla has recently issued a recall for over 11,000 Cybertrucks due to a problem with the windshield wiper. This recall applies to all model year 2024 Cybertruck vehicles manufactured between November 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024. Given that Cybertruck deliveries began in November 2023, this recall affects almost all of the vehicles on the market.

The recall report states that the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to electrical overstress to the gate driver component. This malfunction could lead to a non-functioning windshield wiper, which poses a risk to visibility and increases the chances of a collision. It’s important to note that Tesla has not received any reports of accidents, injuries, or fatalities related to this issue.

To address the problem, Cybertruck owners will need to take their vehicles to a Tesla service center for a replacement of the windshield wiper motor. This recall highlights the unique design of the Cybertruck’s oversized windshield wiper, which attracted attention even before the vehicle’s launch. Spy shots revealed the unusual size of the wiper compared to those on other cars. Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla, acknowledged the challenges associated with the wiper during the car’s development, stating that there was “no easy solution” for it.

In addition to the windshield wiper issue, Tesla also issued another recall for a trim piece along the truck bed of the Cybertruck. This trim piece has the potential to come loose and fall off, necessitating replacement or re-attachment to prevent loss. This is not the first time the Cybertruck has faced recalls. In April 2024, Tesla recalled all previously sold Cybertrucks due to accelerator pad issues. Unlike previous recalls that could be resolved through software updates, these Cybertruck recalls require owners to visit a service center.

In total, Tesla has issued four recalls for the Cybertruck since its release. While these recalls may be seen as setbacks, they demonstrate Tesla’s commitment to addressing potential safety concerns and ensuring the best possible experience for Cybertruck owners. As with any new vehicle, it is not uncommon for adjustments and improvements to be made after its initial launch, and Tesla’s responsiveness to issues further establishes its dedication to customer satisfaction and safety.
