Tesla Issues Two Recalls for Cybertruck: Faulty Windshield Wipers and Loose Trim Pieces

Tesla Cybertruck Faces Fourth Recall for Faulty Windshield Wipers and Loose Trim Pieces

Tesla has issued yet another recall for its popular Cybertruck, marking the fourth recall in the vehicle’s short history. The latest recalls are related to two separate issues: faulty motor for the windshield-wiper blades and loose trim pieces that may detach while the vehicle is in motion.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) reports that the front windshield wiper motor controller may stop functioning due to excessive electrical current. This malfunction can render the windshield wipers useless, posing a safety risk to drivers during inclement weather. Additionally, the trunk bed trim may have a loose applique that could detach from the vehicle, posing hazards to other motorists and increasing the risk of a crash.

These recalls come on the heels of Tesla’s recent decision to delay shipments of the Cybertruck to customers. The company cited issues with the windshield wipers and stated that dealerships were awaiting parts to rectify the problem before delivering the vehicles to their owners. Prior to the recall, customers had already been complaining about malfunctioning windshield wipers, with videos surfacing online showing the blades failing to work during rainstorms shortly after taking delivery of their new Cybertrucks.

This is not the first time the Cybertruck has faced recalls. In April, Tesla recalled the vehicle due to a faulty accelerator pedal issue, and in January, it issued a recall for an incorrect font size on warning lights. It’s worth noting that electric vehicle (EV) recalls occur more frequently than those of traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles, and EV owners should be aware of how to handle such situations.

The recall affects a significant number of Cybertrucks, including 11,688 units manufactured between November 13, 2023, and June 6, 2024, for the windshield wiper issue, and 11,363 units made between November 13, 2023, and May 26, 2024, for the trunk bed trim problem. As the first Cybertrucks were delivered to customers on November 30, 2023, nearly every model is potentially affected by the recall.

Affected Cybertruck owners will be notified by mail on or before August 18, 2024, and are advised to contact their local Tesla dealerships for further instructions. Tesla has already informed dealerships about the recall as of June 21. Owners should bring their Cybertrucks to the dealership, where technicians will replace the windshield motor and ensure proper installation of the truck-bed applique. These repairs will be done free of charge to the owners.

In conclusion, Tesla’s Cybertruck has encountered multiple recalls since its launch, with the latest ones addressing issues related to faulty windshield wipers and loose trim pieces. The company is taking proactive measures by notifying owners and offering free repairs to rectify the problems. Despite these setbacks, it is crucial to note that EV recalls are not uncommon and can be addressed effectively with proper communication and prompt action from both automakers and owners.
