Power reveals that while Tesla buyers remain strongly connected to the Supercharger experience, overall satisfaction is declining. This raises concerns for Tesla, as other non-Tesla charging networks are quickly catching up and making significant gains in customer satisfaction.

Interestingly, the study also found that Tesla buyers are highly invested in the company’s charging technology. In fact, the top five vehicles in J.D. Power’s survey on how charging influenced the decision to purchase a vehicle were all Teslas. This indicates that Tesla owners value and prioritize access to a robust charging infrastructure.

However, despite this loyalty, satisfaction with Tesla’s Superchargers has dipped. Some may be inclined to attribute this decline to recent layoffs in Tesla’s Supercharger team. The study reveals an overall increase in satisfaction with public DC fast charging, with a 16-point jump from the previous year. This improvement is primarily driven by enhancements in charging speed and reliability.

Furthermore, the study highlights a 12 percent decrease in outages and malfunctions between 2023 and the first quarter of 2024. EV owners are expressing satisfaction with the ease of charging and the availability of charging stations. These positive responses indicate that the charging infrastructure is becoming more reliable and convenient, ultimately bolstering the case for wider EV adoption.
