The All-New 2024 Chevrolet Traverse: A Stylish and Capable Three-Row Crossover

2024 Chevrolet Traverse: Third Generation with Style and Substance

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse brings forth the third generation of the popular three-row crossover. This time around, Chevrolet has not only improved its looks but also made substantial changes under the hood and inside the cabin. With the introduction of new trims like the Z71 and RS, the Traverse now offers more style and versatility than ever before.

One of the significant changes in the 2024 Traverse is the replacement of the previous 3.6-liter V6 engine with a new 2.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. This engine, based on the 2.7-liter turbo first seen in the Silverado, delivers increased power and improved fuel economy. Thanks to a new-to-GM “ePhaser,” the engine can adjust the camshaft on the fly, enhancing power and efficiency. The new Traverse achieves an impressive 20 miles per gallon city, 27 mpg highway, and 23 mpg combined with front-wheel drive, or 19/24/21 mpg with all-wheel drive.

Chevrolet has also focused on safety in the 2024 Traverse. The list of standard safety equipment has expanded considerably, making it a standout in its class. Features such as buckle-to-drive, teen driver feature, haptic safety alerts, HD surround view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, side bicycle detection, and intersection automatic emergency braking are all included as standard. These safety features demonstrate Chevrolet’s commitment to keeping passengers safe on the road.

For those looking for an off-road experience, the Traverse Z71 trim offers rugged capabilities. With increased ground clearance, all-terrain tires, red tow hooks, and skid plates, the Z71 is ready for adventure. It also features a twin-clutch all-wheel drive system and specially tuned dampers for improved off-road performance. The introduction of Off-Road and Terrain driving modes further enhances the Traverse Z71’s capabilities.

On the other end of the spectrum, the Traverse RS trim offers a sporty and street-focused driving experience. It features 22-inch gloss black wheels, black accents, and a red-accented black interior. The RS trim also comes with the latest technology, including Super Cruise, Bose premium audio, and perforated leather seats.

During our brief drives in the 2024 Traverse, we experienced both the off-road capabilities of the Z71 and the handling of the RS on curvy roads. The Z71’s ride quality was exceptional, thanks to its all-terrain tires and suspension tuning. It proved to be comfortable even on rough terrain, making it ideal for adventurous journeys. The RS, on the other hand, handled corners well and delivered a comfortable ride despite its 22-inch wheels. Further testing is needed to evaluate its performance on pothole-ridden roads.

The new 2.5-liter engine in the Traverse provides quiet and efficient power delivery. Its turbocharged design ensures quick acceleration and a linear power curve. With the available all-wheel drive system, drivers can engage it for added traction in slippery conditions. Adaptive cruise control comes standard, and GM’s Super Cruise hands-free driving technology is available on select trims. Super Cruise continues to impress with its reliability and ease of use.

Inside the 2024 Traverse, Chevrolet has equipped it with an Android-powered infotainment system. The interface is user-friendly, offering customization options and easy access to essential features like climate control. Physical HVAC controls and a volume knob ensure convenience and ease of use.

The Traverse’s spacious interior remains one of its standout features. With standard second-row captain’s chairs and seating for seven, it offers ample room for passengers. The second row can slide forward to create more space in the third row, which comfortably accommodates even tall individuals. In terms of cargo space, the Traverse excels with 22.9 cubic feet behind the third row and a maximum of 97.6 cubic feet with the seats folded down. It also has a towing capacity of 5,000 pounds.

Overall, the 2024 Chevrolet Traverse impresses with its improved design, advanced safety features, and versatile trims catering to various preferences. It is a worthy contender in the three-row crossover segment, even with competitors like the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride. Further testing and exploration will provide a more comprehensive understanding of the Traverse’s capabilities, but our initial impressions are positive. We look forward to spending more time with it, especially the off-road-ready Z71 trim.
