The Games Fund invests $1.5M in Roar Games to finance development of their first-ever game

blankRoar Games, a studio founded by the creators of Zheeshee production studio, has just secured an impressive $1.5 million in funding from The Games Fund. This investment will be used to fuel the development of Roar Games’ debut game, Tenet of the Spark. The Games Fund, which raised a staggering $50 million for its inaugural funding, aims to support emerging studios, particularly in central and eastern Europe.

The inspiration for Tenet of the Spark comes from one of Zheeshee’s animated short films, titled “The Spark.” This third-person action game follows the journey of a boxer who gains extraordinary powers through his ancestors. Players will have the ability to switch between modern settings and the Viking and South American settings that were once inhabited by the boxer’s forebears. This unique world-switching mechanic promises to offer an immersive and captivating gaming experience.

Artem Shcherbakov, founder and CEO of Roar Games, expressed his delight in welcoming The Games Fund as their first investor. He commended their human approach and their willingness to embrace Roar Games’ vision for an experience and intellectual property (IP) that transcends the boundaries of gaming. The game has already garnered significant attention from potential players worldwide, and the positive community reaction has reinforced the team’s belief in bringing this vibrant and energetic story to life within a game.

Ilya Karpinskiy, co-founder and general partner of The Games Fund, noted that Roar Games is an ideal fit for their investment strategy. The studio’s animation skills are evident in their work, and they have showcased their ability to create visually stunning games. However, it is not just about the visuals – The Games Fund was also impressed by the promise of Tenet of the Spark’s multi-civilization melee combat. This element will undoubtedly contribute to an unforgettable gaming experience. In a gaming industry dominated by live service giants, there is a clear opportunity for beautifully crafted AA experiences that push the creative envelope and build new cross-media IPs.
