Hyundai N Vision 74: A Promising Concept with Persisting Rumors
The Hyundai N Vision 74 concept has been the subject of persistent rumors, and Hyundai’s recent CEO Investor Day presentation has only fueled the speculation further. The presentation included a slide labeled “EV Full Lineup,” highlighting the company’s plans to provide customers with a wide range of electric vehicle options, from mass-market to luxury/high-performance models. Among the examples shown were four models, two of which have already been released, namely the electric Hyundai Inster and the Ioniq N. Two more models, the Ioniq 9 SUV and the Genesis GV60 Magma, are set to be launched soon. However, one intriguing high-performance EV model is conspicuously absent from the slide but mentioned by name: The Hyundai N (vision 74).
The Hyundai N Vision 74 concept was unveiled in July 2022 on Hyundai’s performance-focused N-Day. It pays homage to the 1974 Hyundai Pony Coupe with its modernized and sharpened design language. The concept features blistered fenders reminiscent of an old IMSA racer, pixel lights, and Turbofan wheels that exude a futuristic appeal. Its powertrain comprises two electric motors on the rear axle, delivering a total output of over 670 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. The concept boasts a 62.4-kWh battery pack and a 4.2-kg hydrogen fuel tank tied to an 85-kW fuel-cell stack, enabling an estimated range of more than 373 miles.
Despite initial denials from Hyundai, rumors about the production version of the N Vision 74 concept have persisted. In May 2023, it was suggested that the street-legal version would arrive by 2026, retaining the dual-electric powertrain from the concept and producing over 775 horsepower. It was speculated that only around 100 or 200 units would be produced, with some earmarked for participation in race series in the U.S. and Europe. The expected price tag for each unit was around $374,000.
While the extent to which these rumors align with Hyundai’s actual plans remains uncertain, the company’s presentation slide leaves room for speculation. While it would be a shame if the N Vision 74 were to become a limited-edition collectible, languishing in garages or auction catalogs, there are other exciting possibilities to consider. Hyundai could opt to sell the N Vision 74 as a high-dollar technology showcase that eventually evolves into a more affordable pure battery-electric variant. Alternatively, given that the concept is reportedly based on a modified Kia Stinger platform, Hyundai could explore the idea of a performance hybrid. This would deviate from the slide’s title but would surely be met with enthusiasm.
