“The Jeep Recon Off-Roader to Offer Hybrid Powertrain in 2025, Says Brand Boss”

Jeep’s upcoming off-roader, the Recon, may be offered with both hybrid and electric powertrain options when it launches in 2025. This news comes from Jeep’s new brand boss, Antonio Filosa. The Recon was initially revealed as an electric concept vehicle, based on the popular Wrangler model. It is designed to have impressive off-road capabilities, with removable doors, a range of 373 miles, and around 600bhp.

The Recon is set to arrive around the same time as the Wagoneer S, a luxury flagship model with a focus on road performance. Both vehicles were showcased as bespoke electric cars using Stellantis’s STLA Large platform.

As the growth of electric vehicle (EV) sales has slowed down, Jeep recently introduced a petrol version of the Avenger electric crossover in the UK. Fiat, another brand under Stellantis, also followed suit with petrol versions of their closely related models. However, when asked about the possibility of offering internal combustion engine (ICE) versions of the Wagoneer S and Recon, Filosa stated that their current plan is to focus on battery electric vehicles (BEV) only. He did mention that there may be opportunities for hybrid options on the Recon due to its versatile platform.

Filosa emphasized Stellantis’s commitment to its electrification strategy, aiming for electric cars to make up 100% of sales in Europe, 50% in the US, and 20% in South America by 2030. He highlighted that Jeep is strong in various regions worldwide and needs to invest in other possibilities besides electric vehicles to maintain its presence. However, the company’s strategy remains focused on going fully electric in Europe.

In terms of other markets, Filosa mentioned Brazil as Jeep’s second-largest market behind the US and noted that they would adapt quickly if European political leaders decide differently regarding their electrification plans.

This shift towards hybrid and electric powertrains aligns with the global automotive industry’s broader trend towards electrification. Governments around the world are implementing stricter emission regulations, and consumers are increasingly interested in sustainable transportation options. Hybrid and electric vehicles offer reduced emissions and improved fuel efficiency, making them attractive choices for environmentally conscious consumers.

Jeep’s decision to offer hybrid and electric options for the Recon demonstrates their commitment to meeting the evolving demands of consumers and staying competitive in the market. It also reflects the company’s recognition of the potential for growth in the electric vehicle sector.

Overall, Jeep’s plans for the Recon highlight the brand’s innovation and adaptability in response to changing market dynamics. By offering hybrid and electric powertrain options, Jeep aims to cater to a wider range of customers while contributing to a greener future.
