The new iPad Pro has been causing quite a stir in the tech world. Packed with the brand-new M4 chip, this latest iteration of Apple’s popular tablet promises impressive performance upgrades. I had the opportunity to test out the iPad Pro for myself, and I have to say, I was blown away.
At Apple’s “Let Loose” livestream event, they announced that the iPad Pro would skip a whole generation of chips and instead feature the M4 chip. Initially, I didn’t fully grasp the significance of this upgrade, but after trying it out, I was left in awe.
The M4 chip comes with a 10-core CPU and 10-core GPU, but it’s important to note that these specifications are only available in the 1TB and 2TB configurations. I tested the 1TB variant, and the results were mind-blowing.
Running the Geekbench 6 benchmark on the iPad Pro, I was shocked by the numbers. The single-core score reached an impressive 3,764, while the multi-core score soared to 14,586. To put this into perspective, I compared these results to our data collection from the past six months of testing PCs and MacBooks. The M4 iPad Pro outperformed almost every computer we had tested during that period.
Even powerful devices like the 14-inch MacBook Pro and the 15-inch MacBook Air, both equipped with M3 chips, fell short in comparison with multi-core scores of 11,998 and 12,057, respectively. The M4 iPad Pro even surpassed several gaming and creator laptops we had tested.
There was only one laptop that managed to outperform the M4 iPad Pro – the Lenovo Legion 9i with an Intel Core i9-13980HX CPU. This gaming rig, priced at $4,000, achieved an impressive Geekbench 6 score of 17,711.
In addition to its remarkable performance, the new iPad Pro also boasts incredible battery life. It can last over 16 hours on a single charge, making it an ideal device for productivity on the go.
Considering the extraordinary performance of the M4 chip in the iPad Pro, one can’t help but wonder what will happen when this chip inevitably finds its way into Apple’s next line of MacBooks. The possibilities are truly exciting.
The iPad Pro is available in two sizes – 11-inch and 13-inch – with prices starting at $999 and $1,299 respectively. Pre-orders have begun, and the tablets are set to start shipping on May 15th.
