“The New Bentley Continental GT Speed: A Bold Design and Ultra Performance Hybrid Powertrain”

Bentley has unveiled its new Continental GT Speed, the first car to feature the company’s Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain. This new design marks a significant shift for Bentley as it embraces the electrified era. The Continental GT Speed has undergone a substantial refresh, with 68% of its parts being replaced, making it homologated as a new car.

One of the key updates is the introduction of a new V8-engined PHEV powertrain, replacing the retired W12 engine. Despite the decrease in cylinder count, the new powertrain more than compensates with a combined output of 771bhp, making it Bentley’s most powerful road car to date. This PHEV powertrain will also be available in the Flying Spur saloon and Bentayga SUV models.

The new Continental GT Speed boasts impressive performance figures, reaching 0-62mph in just 3.2 seconds and a top speed of 208mph. The drop-top GTC variant only takes 0.2 seconds longer to reach 62mph. The chassis has also received substantial upgrades, including a new stability control system, improved anti-roll system, and new suspension components for enhanced handling.

The addition of the hybrid powertrain brings better weight distribution to the Continental GT Speed, with a 50:50 front-to-rear balance. This improves the car’s overall balance and handling during dynamic driving situations. In full-bore Dynamic mode, the drivetrain allows for slight slip at the rear axle, giving drivers greater control in corners while still maintaining a safety net to bring the car back in line if necessary.

In terms of design, the new Continental GT Speed takes inspiration from Bentley’s exclusive Batur and Bacalar models from the Mulliner division. The most notable design feature is the new headlight design, featuring a distinctive ‘eyebrow’ motif that will become a signature element of Bentley’s new-era front ends. The bodywork has also been refined, with a cleaner and more muscular appearance.

Inside the cabin, the fourth-generation Continental GT Speed offers new materials and equipment options, including exclusive features from the Mulliner personalization division. Deliveries of the new model are set to begin in the autumn, with prices starting from £236,000.

Overall, the new Bentley Continental GT Speed represents a significant leap forward for the brand. With its Ultra Performance Hybrid powertrain, enhanced performance capabilities, and refreshed design, it is poised to make a bold statement in the electrified era of luxury sports cars.
