The New Jeep Wagoneer S Electric SUV: Blending Luxury Design with Sports Car Performance to Challenge Tesla Model Y

Jeep is set to release its new electric SUV, the Wagoneer S, later this year in the US and next year in the UK. This will be Jeep’s second battery-electric model, following the small Avenger, and the first to be offered globally. The company is hoping that the premium design and on-road performance of the Wagoneer S will help it compete with popular electric SUVs like the Tesla Model Y.

The Wagoneer S will be a D-SUV with the spaciousness of an E-SUV, making it an attractive option for consumers in both the US and European cities. Jeep CEO Antonio Filosa believes that the vehicle will appeal to a wide range of consumers and fit well in urban environments. The launch version of the Wagoneer S will have a dual-motor powertrain with 592bhp and 516lb ft of torque. While full performance details have yet to be revealed, it is known that the SUV can go from 0-62mph in just 3.4 seconds, making it the fastest-accelerating Jeep in history.

One of the standout features of the Wagoneer S is its use of the new electric-focused STLA Large platform developed by parent company Stellantis. This platform offers flexibility for different powertrain layouts and battery sizes. The launch version of the SUV will come with a 100kWh battery, providing a claimed range of over 300 miles. It will also have a 400V architecture and a fast-charging capability that allows for a 5-80% charge in just 28 minutes.

The Wagoneer S will feature all-wheel drive with motors mounted on each axle, along with Jeep’s SelecTerrain traction management system that includes different drive modes for various terrains. The SUV’s body has been designed for improved aerodynamics, achieving a drag coefficient of 0.29, which is the lowest for any Jeep model. The interior of the Wagoneer S emphasizes a premium experience, with 45 inches of interactive screens and high-quality materials. There is also a spacious cabin, a large boot, and a McIntosh audio system.

While the initial launch will be a twin-motor version, Jeep plans to expand the lineup in the future to include a single-motor option and possibly performance models. Although the Wagoneer S is an all-electric vehicle, Jeep hasn’t ruled out the possibility of a combustion-engined version in the future, depending on consumer demand.

Overall, the Jeep Wagoneer S represents a significant step for the brand into the electric SUV market. With its blend of premium design, sports car performance, and advanced technology, it aims to compete with established players like Tesla. The global availability of the Wagoneer S and its focus on both spaciousness and performance make it an appealing option for consumers in various markets.
