The Next Big Thing in Electrification: Introducing the All-New Audi A6 Sportback

Introducing the Audi A6 and S6, the next big thing in the electrification of vehicles. These models are based on Audi’s dedicated electric vehicle platform, the Premium Platform Electric (PPE). Unlike the previous SUV configuration, the A6 and S6 utilize a low floor configuration, thanks to the battery pack beneath the floor. This design choice gives the EVs a taller overall proportion, but Audi’s designers have cleverly employed visual tricks to maintain a sporty and sleek appearance.

One notable design element is the split headlamp design, typically seen in SUVs but now present in the A6 and S6. The daytime running lamps are located at the top, while the projectors are hidden beneath, resulting in a lower, sleeker, and more sporty look. Another distinguishing feature is the contrasting blade element that draws attention to the battery underneath the vehicle. This design element wraps around the vehicle and integrates the rear reflector, creating a cohesive and eye-catching design.

The A6 and S6 boast a 100 kWh battery pack, providing an estimated range of 466 miles on Europe’s WLTP cycle. While the range on the more stringent EPA cycle remains to be seen, the 800-volt architecture enables fast charging capabilities. At an appropriate station, the vehicles can achieve up to 270 kW charging, adding approximately 190 miles of range in just 10 minutes. Even at a 400-volt DC station, the battery can split into two and charge as a parallel pair of 400-volt packs, allowing for around 135 kW charging.

Performance-wise, the A6 is equipped with a 270 kW electric motor on the rear axle, delivering around 362 horsepower and enabling a 0-62 mph sprint in just 5.42 seconds. For those craving more speed, the S6 features a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup with a total output of 370 kW, equivalent to approximately 496 horsepower. With launch control and a temporary boost of 405 kW, the S6 can accelerate from 0 to 62 mph in an impressive 3.9 seconds.

Moving to the interior, the A6 showcases Audi’s dual display infotainment setup, consisting of an 11.9-inch digital instrument cluster and a 14.5-inch center display. Both displays utilize OLED technology and are bonded to a single curve panel, offering a seamless and futuristic look. Additionally, there is a 10.9-inch passenger display, completing the triple screen setup.

While the A6 and S6 come packed with innovative technologies, it is worth noting that certain features will not be available in the United States. For instance, the Audi second-generation virtual exterior mirrors, which utilize small camera pods, will not be offered due to US regulations requiring optical mirrors. The animated themes for the digital OLED tail lights will also be absent, although customizable static light signature themes and walk-up welcome animations will still be included.

Furthermore, the Avant configuration, a sleek wagon variant, will not be imported to the US market due to low demand for wagons. However, Audi provides alternative options like the Q6 e-tron SUV for customers seeking more utility.

In conclusion, the Audi A6 and S6 sportbacks represent the future of electrification in the automotive industry. With their striking design, impressive range, fast charging capabilities, and advanced technologies, these vehicles offer a compelling and exhilarating driving experience. Whether you prefer sedans or SUVs, Audi has the perfect electric vehicle for you.
