The Next Generation 2025 Volkswagen Tiguan: What to Expect in the Global Version

Volkswagen is preparing to launch the third-generation 2025 Tiguan, which will be the global version of the second-generation Tayron L crossover being introduced in China. The Tayron L will replace the Tiguan Allspace in some markets, while the Tiguan name will continue to be used in markets like the US where only the seven-seat version is available.

In terms of improvements, the Tayron L offers larger dimensions and more interior space compared to its predecessor. The interior has been revamped with better buttons, and the overall design has been refreshed. Additionally, the Tayron L will feature some sort of hybrid power, leveraging the same MQB Evo platform as the existing Tiguan.

According to figures from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Tayron L measures 184.4 inches long, 73 inches wide, and 66.3 inches tall, with a 109.9-inch wheelbase. Compared to the US-market Tiguan, the Tayron L is 4.8 inches longer, 0.5 inch wider, and 1.7 inches taller, offering additional cargo room. However, it is worth noting that the Atlas is still significantly larger than the Tayron L.

Visually, the Tayron L boasts more imposing lines than the Tiguan, highlighted by full-width light bars at the front and rear. China will have four trims available, including two R-Line grades. These trims will be based on two engines with three output options, ranging from 158 horsepower to 217 horsepower. The US market can expect the 2.0-liter engine, potentially in a mild-hybrid configuration, with the possibility of a plug-in hybrid variant in the future.

Inside, the upgraded specs of the Tiguan include features such as a refined digital cockpit, a new heads-up display, a 15-inch infotainment screen, and a rotary controller. The steering wheel will have physical buttons, and the shifter will be located on a steering column stalk.

Production of the third-generation Tiguan is scheduled to begin in early 2025, with the expected debut later this year. Overall, the new Tiguan promises to be an exciting upgrade, delivering a refreshed design, enhanced technology, and potentially more fuel-efficient powertrain options.
