The Volkswagen ID. Buzz: A Closer Look at the Trims, Colors, and Features of the Retro-Inspired Electric Van

The highly anticipated Volkswagen ID. Buzz, a retro-inspired electric van, is set to arrive in showrooms as a 2025 model. As details about the vehicle emerge, it is becoming increasingly clear that Volkswagen has designed the ID. Buzz to cater to a wide range of consumer preferences.

This upcoming electric van will be available in three trim levels, with one exclusive to the initial launch. Although the ID. Buzz has already been released in Europe, the U.S. market will receive a long-wheelbase model unveiled in June 2023. Equipped with a 91-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, the ID. Buzz boasts a single electric motor that delivers 282 horsepower to the rear wheels. For buyers seeking more power and versatility, Volkswagen offers an optional 4Motion all-wheel-drive system with a second motor and 335 horsepower.

Volkswagen understands the importance of personalization, and that is evident in the extensive range of color options available for the ID. Buzz. Customers can choose from Metro Silver, Candy White, and Deep Black Pearl for a single-tone van. However, the color palette expands when opting for the two-tone options. For instance, Candy White tops can be paired with bottoms in Energetic Orange, Pomelo Yellow, Blue Charcoal, Mahi Green, Metro Silver, Cabana Blue, or Indium Gray. These combinations pay homage to the original van’s iconic style. Alternatively, customers can select a Metro Silver top with a Cherry Red bottom.

Inside the ID. Buzz, American buyers will have three unique combinations to choose from: Moonlight, Dune, and Copper. Each combination features a variety of pre-selected trim, upholstery, and piping colors. Although leatherette will be the only upholstery available initially, customers can expect other materials to be introduced later on.

When the ID. Buzz hits showrooms, it will offer three distinct trim levels: Pro S, Pro S Plus, and 1st Edition. The entry-level Pro S, available in a rear-wheel-drive configuration, comes standard with several impressive features such as 20-inch wheels, power-operated sliding doors on both sides, a second-row bench seat, wireless device charging, ambient lighting with 30 color options, a 5.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.9-inch touchscreen for the infotainment system. Furthermore, Volkswagen’s IQ.Drive suite of driving aids and Park Assist Plus with a memory function are included as standard features.

Moving up the trim levels, the Pro S Plus offers rear- or all-wheel-drive options. While the rear-wheel-drive Pro S Plus comes with a second-row bench seat as standard, buyers can choose to replace it with individual captain’s chairs to create a more luxurious seating arrangement. However, this configuration reduces capacity from seven to six passengers. On the other hand, the all-wheel-drive Pro S Plus only offers the six-seater layout. This mid-range trim level also adds a nine-speaker, 700-watt Harman Kardon sound system and a head-up display. Optional features include an electrochromic panoramic glass roof and a folding trailer hitch.

For those looking to make a statement, the 1st Edition trim will be exclusively available at launch. Although the duration of its availability has not been specified, the 1st Edition offers unique features depending on the drivetrain. Rear-wheel-drive variants come with a second-row bench seat, while all-wheel-drive versions are equipped with second-row captain’s chairs. This trim level’s aesthetics are highlighted by specific 20-inch wheels, cross bars for the roof rails, distinctive exterior emblems, an electrochromic glass roof, the Dune interior theme, and “heritage-inspired floor mats.” Additionally, buyers of the 1st Edition will receive exclusive gifts.

While pricing details and comprehensive technical specifications have yet to be announced, Volkswagen has promised to reveal them closer to the ID. Buzz’s on-sale date. This much-anticipated electric van is expected to deliver impressive driving range and towing capacity, further solidifying its potential to revolutionize urban transportation.

Overall, the Volkswagen ID. Buzz presents a promising addition to the electric vehicle market. Its retro-inspired design, customizable options, and range of features across different trim levels are sure to appeal to a diverse set of consumers seeking a stylish and sustainable transport solution.
