TikTok Enhances Community Guidelines and Safety Measures to Create a Secure and Enjoyable Environment for Users

TikTok: Enhancing Safety and User Experience for its Global Community

TikTok, the rapidly growing social media platform known for its short-form video content, has garnered immense popularity worldwide. With its active community and captivating content, TikTok has become a favorite among users. However, the platform recognizes the need for responsible usage and is taking precautionary measures to ensure the safety and well-being of its users.

On May 17, TikTok made a significant announcement regarding modifications to its Community Guidelines. These updates were accompanied by the introduction of new features aimed at creating a secure and enjoyable environment for all users while empowering creators. The main focus areas for these enhancements were content moderation, health misrepresentation, and hate speech.

To provide users with more detailed information about TikTok’s rules and enforcement, the platform is furnishing specific guidelines. In an effort to improve the safety of the For You stream, TikTok is implementing new qualifying standards. Content creators who consistently violate these standards will have their accounts temporarily disqualified from being recommended in the For You feed and will have their content displayed less prominently in search results. This measure aims to prevent the exposure of potentially harmful content and offers impacted artists the opportunity to appeal decisions.

TikTok is also working on implementing a warning strike system to help creators understand the platform’s policies. Upon their first violation of the Community Guidelines, creators will receive a warning that does not count towards their total number of strikes. Subsequent infractions will result in comprehensive information being provided to creators about rule violations and the appeals process, with subsequent violations being recorded and penalized accordingly.

One of the new features introduced by TikTok is “Account Check.” Available to all users, this feature allows creators to thoroughly examine their accounts and recent posts. It provides an overview of a creator’s position on TikTok by identifying removed or restricted content from the For You feed and any applicable feature limitations.

In the coming weeks, TikTok will also begin adhering to the TikTok Creator Code of Conduct. Creators who participate in TikTok programs, features, events, and campaigns will need to meet specific criteria outlined by this code. The aim is to ensure a consistent and exceptional experience for all participants by defining the responsibilities of creators both on and off the platform.

These updates and initiatives underscore TikTok’s commitment to improving the security and overall experience for its more than one billion users worldwide. By providing essential information and resources, TikTok aims to foster a positive digital environment that allows creators to flourish on the platform. Despite its constant evolution and expansion, TikTok remains dedicated to safety, diversity, and maintaining its position as the premier platform for connection, expression, and creativity.
