Wireless charging pads for phones have become the most desired feature for new-car buyers, according to AutoPacific’s Future Attribute Demand Study (FADS). The study, which surveyed over 14,900 licensed drivers in the U.S., revealed that consumers prioritize comfort and convenience features when considering a new vehicle.

Topping the list of desired features are wireless charging pads for front row passengers, followed closely by wireless charging pads for rear passengers. These features are considered essential by car buyers, reflecting the increasing reliance on smartphones in daily life.

Interestingly, AutoPacific notes that both wireless charging pad options were already on the top 10 most-wanted list in the previous year’s study but have now moved even higher up the ladder. This suggests that the demand for convenient phone charging solutions is only growing stronger.

In addition to phone charging pads, the study identified other sought-after features and their estimated costs. Heated and ventilated seats ranked third in popularity, highlighting the importance of comfort in the eyes of consumers. Rain-sensing windshield wipers and a sunroof-moonroof were also highly desired, emphasizing the desire for convenience and luxury.

Driver profile settings emerged as a key feature of interest for new car shoppers. With advancements in technology, drivers are increasingly seeking a personalized driving experience. The ability to customize seat comfort adjustments, exterior LED light signatures, and infotainment system settings were seen as important factors in enhancing the driving experience. This demand for personalization has elevated driver profile settings to the sixth most-wanted feature in the current study, up from its tenth rank in the previous year’s findings.

The AutoPacific study also highlighted the increasing importance of connectivity and technology in vehicles. Respondents expressed interest in features like a household 110-volt outlet, rear sunshades, rear cross-traffic alert with emergency braking, and a built-in air compressor. These features reflect the desire for practicality, safety, and convenience in modern vehicles.

As car buyers become more tech-savvy, they expect their vehicles to offer the latest infotainment technologies and connectivity devices. This underscores the need for automakers to continually innovate and integrate advanced features that enhance the driving experience.
