“Touring Superleggera Unveils Restomod Ferrari 550 Maranello: The Veloce 12”

Italian coachbuilder Touring Superleggera has unveiled the Veloce 12, a restomod of the iconic Ferrari 550 Maranello. This thorough rework of the 1990s supercar features an engine overhaul, fresh styling, and a bespoke suspension set-up. The Veloce 12 retains the original 5.5-liter V12 engine and six-speed manual gearbox but receives significant enhancements.

One notable improvement is the new cooling system, which Touring Superleggera claims is 30% more efficient than what Ferrari used. The Veloce 12 also benefits from a Supersprint exhaust, providing an extra 25bhp and boosting the total output to 503bhp. With these upgrades, the Veloce 12 can sprint from 0-62mph in just 4.4 seconds and reach a top speed of 199mph, matching the performance of the original 550 Maranello.

Touring Superleggera didn’t stop at the engine upgrades. The Veloce 12 also features adaptive suspension from Tractive, known for its previous work on the MST Mk1 and Donkervoort F22. This suspension system, combined with larger 380mm Brembo brake discs at each corner, enhances the Veloce 12’s handling and reduces unsprung weight.

To further improve the chassis’s rigidity, additional metalwork has been welded around the door apertures. Touring Superleggera took inspiration from the Ferrari F12, aiming for similar torsional stiffness. The bodywork of the Veloce 12 is crafted from lightweight carbon fiber, and a set of bespoke alloy wheels helps reduce the car’s overall weight.

Inside the cabin, the Veloce 12 receives a touch of luxury. The plastic components, such as the heater controls, are replaced with aluminum, and the panels are reupholstered in Italian leather. These premium touches elevate the interior ambience, adding to the overall exclusivity of the Veloce 12.

As is expected with such a unique and high-quality restoration, the Veloce 12 comes with a hefty price tag. Prices start at €690,000 (£590,000), excluding the cost of the donor car and local taxes. Touring Superleggera plans to produce only thirty Veloce 12 models, available in both left- and right-hand drive configurations.

The Veloce 12 is an exquisite example of automotive craftsmanship, combining the nostalgia of the original Ferrari 550 Maranello with modern enhancements. Touring Superleggera’s attention to detail and dedication to restoring the car to an “as-new” condition make the Veloce 12 a true collector’s item. For those fortunate enough to own one, this restomod represents a unique opportunity to experience the timeless beauty and performance of a classic Ferrari with the added benefits of modern technology and engineering.
