Travis Pastrana Crashes Subaru Huckster at Goodwood Festival of Speed

Travis Pastrana, the famous racer and stunt driver, had a dramatic crash during his final climb at the Goodwood Festival of Speed. Pastrana had expressed his intention to be aggressive during the climb, and it seems he followed through on his words. The incident occurred at Molecomb, a turn known for being particularly challenging. Pastrana approached the turn with excessive speed, causing him to understeer and crash the Subaru Huckster into the hay bales lining the course.

Interestingly, Pastrana wasn’t the only Subaru driver to face difficulties at that corner. Scott Speed, another Subaru driver, experienced issues just before the turn while driving the Subaru WRX: Project Midnight car. This may have affected his performance and made him slower compared to his previous run. Speed ended up being about three seconds off the pace set by Romain Dumas, who eventually won the Shootout in a Ford Supervan.

The video below captures the split seconds leading up to Pastrana’s crash in Molecomb:

For those unfamiliar with the Huckster, it may appear to be a regular 1983 GL wagon. However, this Subaru is far from stock. Its striking appearance comes from a wide and wild body kit. But its modifications go beyond aesthetics. The Huckster is built on a tubular frame and powered by a turbocharged Subaru flat-four engine that generates a staggering 862 horsepower.

Travis Pastrana’s crash at Goodwood Festival of Speed serves as a reminder of the risks involved in pushing the limits of performance cars. Even experienced drivers can find themselves in challenging situations, especially on treacherous corners like Molecomb. The incident highlights the importance of finding the right balance between aggression and control.

Events like the Goodwood Festival of Speed provide an opportunity for drivers to showcase their skills and for spectators to witness thrilling displays of speed and power. However, it is crucial to remember the inherent dangers associated with motorsports. Safety precautions, such as proper training and well-maintained vehicles, must always be prioritized to minimize the risks involved.
